My Personal Experience: My Journey To College

Entering college is really an eye opening experience. The orientation that is mandatory before starting your journey at FGCU is only a quarter of the confusion you will face. The two hour long lecture in the auditorium will never give you the full run down about how college really works, but believe me they go over almost all of the questions that are running through your head when you walk in the Cohen center. It can be overwhelming, scary, and sometimes emotional. But it can also be exciting, different, and a new chapter in your life that you should make as enjoyable as you can and an experience you should never forget.
My personal experience has almost been exactly how I pictured it when I was a junior in High School. I use to wonder how it would feel to be on my own and have my own space. Also, I always wanted to make the rules for myself and have no one hovering over me telling me what to do, or when to do it. That can be a challenge to some people because they are more dependent on their parents to tell them what to do and remind them of their responsibilities. You’re around numerous people that you don’t know and you get the freedom to do as you please. The best advice I can give is to experience it for yourself. You can only prepare yourself for so long until you actually have to face it head on. You can ask questions to professors, family members that have went to college, strangers, and even friends who’ve been to college and it will never amount to the same experience you will have. You will never know what to expect, but my advice will be to walk into your first class of college with an open mind and be ready for whatever college has in store for you.
