Destruction and Renovations
Destruction is when everything falls apart; everything dissolves and is no longer able to be used. With every destruction comes a renovation. An improvement to what has fallen apart. . The picture that caught my attention was “Spirit and Strength” by Omar Havana from the Ny Times. The image that shows collapsed buildings surrounding a young boy that walks alone in Nepal. We might ask ourselves what this means and it could mean many things.
Abandoned homes, destroyed as if a tornado went around; No it was not a tornado, it was an earthquake that happened in Nepal. Buildings are collapsed. Destruction is at it’s greatest moment. When an image is in black and white it strips away the true colors of the photo It is honest and allows the world to see the true image portraying. When I say honest I mean that it lets the viewers see the subject more clearly than just focusing on one thing. When an image has color many people like to focus on one thing. For example, if a person were to see the color neon yellow, that person would most likely focus on that color. They would notice the other things around it but wouldn’t be as observant as you would expect them to be. As for a black and white image, everything is dull and gives a gloomy feel, depending on the how the person is posing in the picture. You are able to focus on everything since nothing calls your attention. The photographer might have used this effect to make the viewers feel sorrow, thus also known as pathos, appealing to emotions. If this picture had bright colors, it would seem like a normal picture of a child walking around destroyed buildings, you wouldn’t feel like it would be as emotional as it is in black and
