Ensure The Reliability And Validity Of A Qualitative Research Paper

Discuss why you want to ensure the reliability and validity of the data collection tool that you are using in qualitative research project.
According to the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (2016), “the EBP process is a method that allows the practitioner to assess research, clinical guidelines, and other information resources based on high quality findings and apply the results to practice” (para. 5). Thus nursing professionals need to critique the researches to find out if the study findings can be utilized in their clinical practice area.
A critical analysis of a qualitative research involves a thorough review of how every step of the research was undertaken (Ryan, Coughlan, & Cronin, 2007). Due to the differences in the approaches and

There are various evidence-based practice (EBP) models that are most commonly used in the field of nursing. These EBP models include Funk’s Model of Research Dissemination, Stetler’s Model of Research Utilization and Evidence-Based Practice, DiCenso et al. Model, The Iowa Model, Rosswurm and Larrabee Model, The ARCC Model, and Kitson’s Framework. The similarity across the Stetler’s, DiCenso et al., Iowa, and Rosswurm and Larrabee Model is that the basic steps or phases involved in the model is same. For instance: the first step in these models involves the identification of the problem in a clinical practice; next step is to conduct literature search, gather evidences from research, and compare it to current practice; then the decision is made…

Great job to all members of this group, I enjoyed reading your points in favor of EBNP and other points that against nurses using EBNP only. It is true that EBNP does not discard all nursing theories but used those ones that can be proven to improve quality of care and still relevant for our days as focused on nursing practice shifted to the use of research work and technology in nursing care.” Nursing profession, as a practice discipline sanctioned by society, is expected to incorporate the best sound evidence of patient care with the clear purpose of improving that care. Evidence- based nursing practice is more than use of research because it includes all forms of practice knowledge. In essence, evidence- based nursing is a discipline in…

Determining the strength of a nursing research study is a critical process that enhances the implementation of evidence-based practice. Determining the strength of a nursing research study ensures that the empirical knowledge developed through nursing research is useful in improving nursing care, the system of healthcare delivery, and patient outcomes. Additionally, nurses should use research findings when making clinical decisions on the best practice to use in order to deliver healthcare services that ensure all the patients receive safe and quality care (Melnyk et al. 2014). Therefore, determining the strength of a nursing research study helps to ensure the evidence is credible (valid and reliable) and is appropriate if incorporated into clinical practice.…

. SMEBP allows for acceptable evidence to be collected through its five step process. The first step is the preparation phase wherein the nurse researcher searches for and selects research for practice implementation. In the preparation phase, the nurse researcher identifies the need for practice change, identifies and creates the PICOT question as well as the search elements that would facilitate the collection of the best available evidence. The second step is the validation phase whereby the collected evidence is subjected to reviews that determine their value in terms of capacity to answer the PICOT question.…

The authors did not use a traditional qualitative methodology such as phenomenology, grounded theory, or ethnography. Instead they used “generic qualitative research” which does not use a guided methodological framework. The authors state four basic requirements necessary to conduct a well-done generic qualitative study. Due to complexity of the phenomenon studied, the researchers used Canale’s framework to develop interviews that incorporated explorative and interpretive properties.…

Staff Nurses’ use of research to Facilitate Evidence-Based practice (EBP) is a research paper regarding nurses and how or if they educate themselves and use evidence base practice in their work place and if there are barriers that prevent them from using it. The authors utilize a cross-sectional, descriptive online survey to examine the thoughts and behaviors of nurses from 10 hospital health care systems located in a metropolitan area in south central Texas. Although there were limitations to the study, such as sampling was small, the authors concluded that there still remains barriers and negative emotions towards using EBP. The findings indicated that limited use of EBP was largely due to lack of time, lack of resources, and lack of knowledge of evidence base practice. The authors recommended that support must be provided to the nurses, such as compensation and time while on duty to…

Evidence based practice is one of the most commonly used practices in nursing today; it focuses on the needs of the patient. EBP intergrates the best available evidence to guide nursing care and improve patient outcomes (amsn.org) Other practices that are commonly used are systematic review, literature review and meta-analysis. The Institute of Medicine defines a systematic review as a process of identifying, selecting, assessing, and synthesizing the findings from similar but individualized studies (Boswell, Cannon). When there are several studies that are combined together to form one main topic that would be referred to a meta-analysis review, these two topics are what are commonly used to gather information and come to a conclusion…

As stated, it is important for qualitative studies to ensure rigor. Rigor occurs “when strict conduct, accepted specialty standards, and rational interpretation are present” (Yang, 2012). It is important for our research to promote rigor because we want our research to have strength. There are multiple ways that we can ensure rigor within our research. One way that we can do is the following: “a log of decisions needs to be maintained, and reflective journals help to enhance rigor” (Polit & Beck, 2014).…

It contributes to greater nurse efficiency and professionalism which helps results in better health outcomes for the patients. EBP is a crucial element of quality care since individual nurses are able to position themselves to provide optimal care to the patients by using the competencies acquired from the practice (Polit & Beck, 2010). Patients will often have an improved outcome where EBP has been used because it promotes the collection, interpretation and integration of reports from the clients, observations of the practitioner and the research obtained from evidence to give maximum results. As a result, the preferences of the patients themselves, their families and those of the community as a whole are served (Polit & Beck,…

The topic that I selected is increasing the evidence based practice use. Evidence based practice (EBP) is one of the popular topics in nursing today. It is defined as a “problem-solving approach to clinical decision making within a healthcare organization that integrates the best available scientific evidence with the best available experiential evidence” (Hain & Kear, 2015, p. 2). Applying evidence based practice into our daily nursing practice can improve the quality of care of the patients.…

Every decision or action made should be accurate and helpful for patients since care provided is directly related to life. Nurses should not just follow the rituals or routine practices without considering its effect or reasons behind. To be a responsible nurse, nurses should have an obligation to enhance their knowledge and understanding. Therefore, evidence-based practice is essential and important so I think it is beneficial for nurses to follow EBP as it helps nurses to update their knowledge so that more effective care can be provided and benefit the patients. However, EBP has its limitation although it has many benefits.…
