Since the age of 23 Jax has not lived his families Orthodox Judaism life. Jax is gay and has become a member of Dayenu. This organization which was founded in 1999. Dayenu’s is based in Sydney, Australia and exists to meet the needs of Jewish gays, lesbians, bi-sexuals, trans and intersex people as well as provides support for friends, family, partners and all other supporters (About Dayenu). Jax finds himself making a six figure salary as manager over a team of eight who specialize in Landscape Architecture. His business allows him the opportunity to travel and visit the country, because it is one of the largest architectural practices in Australia/Asia that employ over 365 staff with 25 Directors across seven offices in Australia and Internationally (Office Profiles Architects). When Jax is not working he is at home in with his partner Austin. They live in an upscale apartment in the heart of Sydney. They are both outdoor oriented adventurous men. Jax, Austin, and their mates like to go hiking, cycling, and kayaking. Jax’s personal favorite place to go is Royal National Park which offers all three hiking, cycling, and kayaking.
Jax lives for Pub scene and at night can be found dancing and hitting the turps (drinking binges) at Stonewall Hotel. He believe in his religion but did not have feelings or was attracted to women. He consulted with multiple Rabbi’s about his feelings until he met a Rabbi at Newtown Synagogue who told him it was okay for him to be Gay and still believe in the Orthodox Judaism Religion. The Rabbi introduced him to Dayenu.
Jax has never found support from his father and one brothers. His mother, another brother, and one sister learned to love and support Jax for who he is. They have attended meetings and Synagogue with Jax so they have a better understanding of who he is and what he believes. They are very supportive of Austin and welcome him into the family. His father will not speak to him and still denies his son is gay. His brother stands by their father and will not have anything to do with Jax and the way he lives his life.
Jax is happy with his life, but is very frustrated that he has no support from his father. He has always been close to his father, that is, until he came out. He want to marry Austin, but wants his father’s blessing, as well as the legal right to marry in his home country of Australia. Austin’s family have all been supportive even his father.
