“What to write, what to write, what to write,” I thought out loud, “Short story ideas are harder than I thought!” We had commenced our short story unit in English. I was striving to come up with some ideas sitting on a stump along the primordial trail. Vines engulfed the forest in a corybantic scheme, encasing it in a velvety film of nature. Scintillating and radiant wildflowers grew along these vines, with butterflies of every discrepancy ravenously fluttering along these flowers. Deers crooned wearingly, along a little stream which roared feebly. I threw my head backwards and laughed infantly, seeing how much my precious forest had altered. Consequently, vines concealed my eyes and throughout this time period, I wandered ambled in a desultory …show more content…
It was the genesis of the school year, and our teachers pronounced that we were to go on a team bonding field trip. Enonya and I were friends, but our camaraderie was not rooted into the earth as we aspired. I knew this was an issue, but I believed that this field trip could fuse together, the link between Enonya and I. The camp was encompassed in young cherry blossoms with picnic tables in the central region. Our class was just inaugurated in lunch. Everyone was having unpretentious colloquies and not relishing the stunning beauties of nature. In a callow manner, I whispered to Enonya, “You want to ditch this place.” A fiendish smirk unfurled across Enonya’s face. “I thought you would never ask,” she …show more content…
A mighty Oak. It’s limbs towered above the clouds and held itself above us like a giant. It was as broad as molasses and substantial like diamonds. Engraved on it was the word Friendship. “Stupid, stupid tree!” I thought. “You aren’t friendship. Your hatred and enmity!” Before Enonya even knew what hit her I screeched “Sorry!” As I was saying this a flock of crows flew out of the trees. They knew something was erroneous. Soon after she responded with an ear-piercing scream. I attempted to pull off the blindfold, but Enonya waved her hand. “No,” She replied in a monotone voice. “When we reach the mountain's peak, you can take of the blindfold.” We relentlessly continued to walk up the mountain in silence except for the occasional direction. I couldn’t admire the pulchritude of the land, and the further along the trail we drifted further apart like a log in the ocean wafts away from the shore. But Enonya’s posture told me she had something more in

While passage one by N.S. Momaday creates a nostalgic and appreciative tone with the implementation of heavy imagery, elaborate sentences, and precise diction in order to explain the magnitude and the appearance of the landscape, passage two by D. Brown establishes a cryptic and melancholy tone with employment of rich imagery, compound sentences, and descriptive diction, with the intention to explain a cynical attitude towards what has happened to the plains. Although both passages employ approximately the same methods to achieve their purpose, the authors’ purposes are different. Even though the two authors may describe the exact same landscape, both of them have different viewpoints on the landscape in order to achieve their own intentions.…

It was a tall white pine, on the top of a hill; and though I got well pitched, I was well paid for it, for I discovered new mountains in the horizon which I had never seen before, —so much more of the earth and the heavens” (2027). Due to his strong language, as readers we are able to visualize climbing a tall white pine tree, discovering new mountains, and finding the missing pieces in ourselves along the way. It is his imaginative approach to language and nature that allows us to accept his words and believe that we are going with him on an adventure through his writing. Likewise, Thoreau gives us many anecdotes in his essay that we can learn from.…

The sun had dripped highlights into Keke's long and wavy ocean hair. The Hawaii sun had left her with a golden glow, and her eleven-year-old skin looked delightfully youthful. Living on the island of Oahu for all eleven years of her life, Keke had accomplished what many women pay for, an evenly tanned golden body. Occasionally a grass skirt was in order, but only for the hula dances. However, for the rest of her time Keke's wardrobe consisted of her bikini and bare feet.…

The use of nature is one of the more common themes discussed within multiple stories this term. The use of nature can be instrumental in conveying the symbolic meaning, but it also helps to establish the setting in several stories. Commonly, the author’s use of nature serves a dual purpose within the story, which aids in potentially forming a wide array of interpretations for readers. In the short story Chicxulub, the narrator compares the impact he felt when he received news of his daughter being involved in a potentially fatal accident, to asteroid and meteor strikes Chicxulub and Tunguska.…

Experiencing nature allows children to deepen their connection with the environment that surrounds them and the secret wonders they might discover. In Sara Orne Jewett’s short story “A White Heron”, Sylvia, a child who spends much time in the story-like realm of the woods near her home, meets a charming hunter who is looking for the rare white heron. The hunt for the heron allows Sylvia to explore the woods deeply and climb the great pine tree of the forest. Before encountering the hunter, the woods near Sylvia’s home provided her an escape to a parallel universe where she could enjoy and observe nature’s many wonders.…
