Personal Statement
I always knew my heart belonged in the medical field. Therefore, once I graduated high school I decided to volunteer at my local hospital to discover if the medical field was right for me. As a result, after being a volunteer at the hospital for two consecutive years, I took an opportunity to work as a receptionist for an immediate care center and it was there that I saw how the nurses had so much care and compassion for the patients. After observing many hours of nurses helping their patients I knew this would be the perfect profession for me. Ultimately, there were a lot of interior and exterior experiences in my life that narrowed down my future career choices to being a nurse including those that came from my responsibility

He helped me discover a hidden gift that I did not know I had within me, there was a thoughtful and caring attitude with an urge to make a difference in someone’s life. To do this, I learned that communication and understanding were key factors in doing my job. Even non-verbal cues like eye contact and facial expressions were important to do in order to understand his frustration and find a solution. Many times he got frustrated and angry when he was unable to complete a simple task. Encouragement is what helped him to get through the tough times when he needed support and that is what I made sure I did every time. To make sure I was able to help others I learned I had to help myself first. I received my Associate’s degree in Biology from Moraine Valley but I knew the next step was receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. This is why I applied to Resurrection University because my inspiration comes from wanting to help others. The field of nursing is something I am passionate about and see myself as one in the near future. My strong mathematical background gives me the problem solving and the critical thinking skills that I believe are essential in the nursing field. I feel that as a motivated and hard worker, I have a calling to dedicate my life to help others.
