Personal Reflection On Practicing Classes

I want to have a good posture. I want to gain strength and work on my core. I want to get generally fitter, I thought when choosing my classes. And so when I hurt my wrist, my first reaction was absolute panic that I will not be able to continue with pilates, yoga and self-defense. “Write an evaluation of this class,” my pilates teacher said after she saw me. I might not have looked eager to do it, but I was – I can at least write about exercising when I cannot do it. And so I took a pencil and a sheet of paper, stating my criteria:
 Presentation of a pose
 Demonstration (2 points)
 Comprehensibility of instructions (2 points)
 Enjoyableness of the class (2 points)
 Intensity of the work out (2 points)
Having a total of 8 points on my

And it certainly would be if we worked on them harder – with more repetition. Since we usually only perform a certain pose eight or ten times, I personally cannot feel my muscles getting stronger like they are supposed to. The class lacks intensity. At first I thought I could not feel any muscle group engaged because my whole body was already sore from other workouts (self-defense, gym, fitness training and climbing). Yet even after I was not sore anymore, I could not relate to the girls reporting pain or ‘feeling it’ after a class and I seldom find a pose challenging (unless it requires using wrists, because mine are extremely weak due to a peripheral hypermobility). Therefore my ‘Intensity of work out’ category may be considered as quite subjective.
Even though I would appreciate a slightly intensified training, our teacher does everything she can to make the class enjoyable. We listen to music, which is not only entertaining but also motivational. Vocalizing every move she does helps us to avoid mistakes (such as wrong alignment) and even when we make some, she corrects us indirectly so there is no chance of being embarrassed. I did not expect a smooth transition from one position (ground) to another (seated) nor an option to rest and relax when we are tired; but that is certainly one of the things I

Out of all 5 of my talents, Learner describes me the best. As cliché as it may sound, I really have a passion for learning. But my passion for learning extends far past just the usual sitting in class taking notes, or the usual memorization of subjects, instead it really reaches out to deeper depths where I really seek to master everything that is put into my head. I am not okay with only touching base on subjects or barely treading the surface of topics, rather I have to really dive into the text and pay close attention to all the details in order for me to grasp what is going on.…

According to statisticbrain.com, 58,000,000 Americans utilized gym facilities throughout the United States. Of those 58,000,000, they all have their own motivating factors that drive them to work out regularly. With that staggering number, it leads me to explore the variety of exercises that are utilized and further break it down amongst gender. In my research, I chose to explore why men and women choose different exercise workouts at the gym (cardio compared to weightlifting). Through my personal observation, I have observed the divide in workouts based on the individual genders.…

Mussell and Ms. Potts demonstrated an effectively controlled physical education class. It was clear that the women had established a clear routine and expectations for their classes prior to the observed class. During the lesson, the teachers demonstrated effective classroom management by having students sit in the center of the gym while instructions were being given. When splitting up into teams the students were instructed to stand on a line in the gym, then they were counted off to make two teams; this was an effective and time efficient strategy for the lesson. Expectations for appropriate behavior and play were established in the instructions for the day, and these were effectively reinforced by both teachers throughout the activity.…

I knew that it involved stretching and doing some poses, but never expected the positive outcomes on my physical, emotional and mental health. What wanted me to take this course honestly was that it was supposed to be easy and a class where hopefully people would not see me do exercise. I feel somewhat ashamed of my body and doing by being in a physical exercise class I did not want to be the center of humiliation for others. Coming to the first classes made it seem so, since others could do the poses correctly and I could not. Over the course of the semester I learned that no one is really looking at you and everyone is struggling to do the poses, to either stay in them or remain balanced with inner focus.…
