The IBM sales force was the powerful legacy of Thomas Watson senior. He rewarded them with high commissions, inspired them with speeches, educated them in classrooms and punished them if they didn't the line. They soon convinced many people to buy computers and orders came pouring in. IBM 650 was slow however, easier to use. On the other hand, Uniac was efficient but people had to give up the old way when using it. The quote “salesman is the man who make things happen and nothing happens until something is sold” is inspiring. The IBM salesmen really made a change by selling more computers.
