It has helped me with writing my essays, which I always found kind of hard to do before. I still have areas that I find difficult, but I can definitely improve with practice. It been great being able to see my mistakes that I have done before and now knowing how exactly to do it.
One of the important things I feel like I’ve improved is being able to do in text citations. I never really had a clear understanding on how to do in-text citations properly. I feel like now with reading the book, which professor hill assigned us has provided lots of great information on how to do in-text citations the correct way. It has made it easier for me when writing essays and knowing how to introduce my sources and inserting my quotes in the essay. Also the exemplers on ecampus have been a huge, being able to see people’s examples. Which are very useful when getting confused at times and makes my life so much easy. My greatest weakness when writing an essay is the introduction and it has always been since I remember. I still find it hard to start my essays and state a clear thesis. I feel like my thesis statements are too broad and need to be clearly stated. I have always had trouble starting essays but after getting started it becomes easier. Every time I start a new essay I take the longest time to get started and its frustrating most of the time. Looking over more introductions and practicing different techniques to improve would be beneficial to me. My introduction paragraph was not up to the senior level writing. My writing simply didn’t make a clear path that allowed me to carry my ideas throughout the whole paper. The flow of each sentence was choppy and that made it difficult for anyone reading this paper get into the essay; therefore, I need to start including transitional words, phrase, or sentence so the reader and I can easily read my essay faster and with ease. Another thing that I would change is the thesis that I made.…

Introduction Definitions of intelligence vary among scholars, theorists, and laypersons, due to its multidimensionality. However, intelligence typically involves an individual’s ability to learn from experience and adapt to the environment in which they live. I believe that the construct of intelligence should encompass an individual’s ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form, to think logically, and to express creativity. Two intelligence tests in which I recently had the opportunity to take and score included the Shipley Institute of Living Scale-2 and the Wonderlic Personnel Test.…

Reflective writing as a genre allows for a combination of personal reflection and critical thinking all intertwined into one. I turned my reflection essay into a new reflection that focused on a different level of the education system that would allow for me to reflect on my first semester of college to back up my allegations against the school system. When attempting to revise my essay in a new way I reread my old one and found an interesting theme screaming out of the paper. It was saying, “high school and Regents did not prepare me for college.” I took the idea a little further and expanded it to the SAT, that is a similar testing style to Regents, that similarly did not prepare me for college, and through research I found that income status…

Upon completing all the assignments for Writing 101, I think I have undergone a significant amount of growth as a writer. Throughout the course there were many different assignments that I found to be challenging in their own ways. The design of many projects was much different than anything I had previously encountered, causing much more effort, and thought. Specifically, the rhetorical analysis and the proposal were two projects that took me outside of my comfort zone. Each project encompassed its distinct difficulties that ended up evolving my knowledge about writing.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

I’m not confident with my ability to set up my paragraphs in essays because I can’t make my essays flow. My papers get very boring because I can be repetitive in my essays and I tend to lose focus on the purpose of the essay. In addition, my introductions are my weakest point because a paper can’t be strong without a strong introductory paragraph. I never learned any good ways to make a paper intriguing from the start and I think it can make my essays memorable.…
