College has shown me what life is, like after high school and it used to scare me a lot. This english class has actually helped me to learn what type of writer I am and to actually get my point across without the first person pronouns. That was my struggling point throughout the past few years before this class. Writing had always been a weak point and I had hoped to strengthen that, even the slightest, so that I wouldn't be struggling when I am actually in college. I am not stating that the topics that other people or students have written weren’t important, even though most of the students had way better topics that I had and thoroughly explained their importance better than what I did, but that I like to choose topics that I am affected by or have felt like that has happened to some of the people I have known. The past few years, when I had to write essays for my english classes I would write over seventy five percent of the paper within the first day and towards the due date I would write that last quarter of the essay, revise and edit the paper, and write a final copy. Though I am still trying to find a perfect writing method, I found a successful method by splitting the essay up for the days that I am able to write. What that means, is that if I had a week to write seven pages, then I would write a page and a half, or more, a day so that I would be able to edit my essay the day it’s due. This way I wouldn’t have to write so much all in one night and I wouldn’t have to stress so much over the fact that the essay is due that night. When I write my essays I try to have a lot of time to write my essays because it takes me a while for me to come up with facts and important information about the chosen topic. The only problem that I am coming across, is that when I want to express my topic I get very

My revision of “Face it, America!” that follows this cover letter reflects what I have learned in English 1021 so far. While revising this essay, I learned when to use present tense in my writing and past tense in my writing when appropriate. In this class, I have learned to use more transitions and appropriate transitions in my writing. My revision reflects this because in my second paragraph where I mention the significance of police officers, I use transition words for every new sentence that needs it.…

I added personal information, that I myself am in college, to show an connection between the topic and myself. My response also included an emotional connection by expressing my goals and purpose for attending college. I elaborated that college could give me experiences that would impact and change the direction of the course I was going. I also included an example of what a person’s future could hold if they didn’t attend college. This example, living a life in prison, provided an emotional impact on the…

Based on my prior experience in honors english for two years, AP English Language and Composition, and AP Literature, English 101 honors is the best fit for my experience and my level of meticulous and strategic writing at this point. Writing and reading have always come easy to me in school; whether reading to write a book review for the class or reading for the AP exam, I have excelled with high honors and the highest remarks from the faculty on my writing and style. English has always been one of my best subjects. Most of my english teachers were pretty impressed with my writing skills and with my advanced vocabulary for my age. English 1101 is a course aimed to prepare students for their future writing courses and have the necessary skills for writing college level work. Coming into this course I was hopeful that it would improve my general writing skills since throughout my secondary schooling it was acceptable but not exceptional. My current faults are hindering the comprehensiveness of my writings because readers have to sift through the damage to understand the argument and focus of the topic. While I am able to come up with content my inability to logically put it into a written form is something I intended to improve. After this course I hope to have revamped my former weaknesses so I can be a more clear and cohesive writer for the future…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

You also need to know how to pick and limit your writing topic. Rather than having many different ideas about one topic jumbled together, pick one idea and make a good, clear essay about it. You must have a topic where you are able to limit the size and handle it well. To be successful with academic writing, you must understand what you are doing when you write and it also depends on how you go about your writing task.…

English 106 was the first real college class that I ever stepped foot in, and because of that, I was extremely nervous and unsure. The English teachers at my high school always said that the papers they assigned were held to college standards, and I always did well on those assignments, but I was still unsure about this course. I expected this course to be loaded with reading and writing assignments that would make me pull all-nighters on a regular basis. After going through English 106, I realized that there were not too many assignments and that I learned a lot from each one. To me, the most salient parts of this course were the discourse community paper, the annotated bibliography, the art analysis, peer reviews, revisions, and reflections.…
