English Reflection Essay

For english in the first quarter I reflected on my strengths and weaknesses. How to fix them and make them better so I can improve in the second quarter. Something I figured out was that I maybe do a better job with getting my ideas out verbally rather than using my pencil on paper. I learn through actions the best so maybe I need to learn how to grow on that and use my paper and pencil to learn. Or I could improve on writing and try less verbal approaches. Usually when I am doing the assignments at home I try to go as fast as I can. I could try doing it slower and really thinking about the assignment instead of just trying to get it done. Using all of my resources like paperrater could help to improve my writing and get me a better grade …show more content…
I did like doing the group discussions and getting involved in them really helped me understand the book more. Rather than just saying something to put my stick down I tried to say something meaningful for the discussion. When I do my work on noredink I know that it is frustrating but ever sense I have been looking at the rules I have done a lot better and I understand it rather than just doing it for a grade. I will try to do class as if I am trying to learn rather than just getting good grades, but not too much because I need to have good grades to get into a good …show more content…
So far I have learned how to read through texts and really talk about it and understand it a lot better than in the past. I really enjoied reading until reading counts which made me read instead of giving me the opportunity and choice to read the books that I like to read. That is one of the best things that improved this year and now I can read with enjoyment and on my own time schedule rather than someone else's time schedule that is there for me to read more which I already do. The class has definitely improved my reading skills in both ways of not pressuring me to read and me being able to talk about the things that I read in class. Whether it is by myself or with a group of people in the

Pharmaceuticals and Student Enhancement argues whether a student’s use of cognitive enhancing drugs in education is allowed. Cognitive enhancing drugs are used to help aid a student’s mind in order to access higher levels of performance in order to function at more proficient levels. These drugs also help a student focus and concentrate for longer periods of time. Author Gavin Enck argues in favor of cognitive enhancing drugs only if their reasons for using these enhancements are reflective of ideals of human excellence. While some argue that these drugs are used to help students cheat and others argue that these enhancing drugs are simply another type of educational tool, Enck argues that we look closer at the reasons or motivations a student…

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

Throughout the semester of English Composition I, I learned any new things. Over the past few months I have learned many new tips on how to create a good paper. Although I gained much knowledge over the past few months I did struggle with a few things such as formulating a written thesis statement expressing my main point in the composition, producing rough drafts preliminary to the final draft, applying transition strategies to organize the entire composition cohesively and coherently, and overall practicing various prewriting strategies, such as thinking, brainstorming, listing, and freewriting.…

I truly enjoyed having your English 070 class. I have experienced throughout this course difficulties, challenges, and most importantly the feeling of accomplishment after completing any assignment. During my high school time in Mexico, I really did not have the opportunity to write an assignment like how I did in this class, and what I found is that even when I got frustrated at some point, I really enjoyed writing them. I really was nervous at the beginning of the semester and I assumed that the work was going to be beyond hard.…

The course readings helped me to grow and develop as a writer. I found the readings to be a valuable addition to the course material. I certainly appreciated all of the readings, but the one that provided me the most value was Sylvia Morales' "How to Read an Academic Article. " I found so much of this reading to be extreme key useful. For example, I never gave much thought to the various components of an academic article such as the title, abstract, introduction, literature review/background, methods, results, and conclusion/discussion.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

When I signed up for English 1104, I was worried to say the least, English isn’t my strong suit by any means honestly English is a subject I’ve struggled with for a very long time. This isn’t the first time I’ve taken this either this is my second I failed the first time and I’m hoping taking this course under you ill be able to pull off a C. What I can say is that having you as my professor I’ve learned a lot of different things when it comes to writing papers just the concepts you had were easier to understand than teachers I’ve had in the past. Our first paper in class, was a Narrative essay which was to be on something only we could tell in great detail I thought this was going to be super easy so of course I used my topic of me getting a scar at Valley Worlds of fun I really thought this essay was going to be super easy. I was very good about writing about my topic since I was there and recall everything about it, but my…

When it comes to Composition 1, I learned a lot. In the beginning I wanted to learn how to become a better and creative writer. I also wanted to learn how to come up with topics and write about them easier. One last very important thing that I wanted to learn was how to prepare myself for college next year. Dear First Year Writing Assessment Committee: In this letter, I will explain my learning outcomes and experiences with my essays for English 1010. English 1010, defined by academic standards, is to develop in first-year college writers a deeper understanding of the complexities of writing through instruction and guided practice in the skills, processes, and strategies necessary for effective, successful writing. In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…

To my old self, when I started this class, I had no ideal of writing for others I usually wrote with the mindset that if I can read and understand it others should too. But latter that I know that that’s not the case. I used to write without an audience in mind but now I do. I can choose who I am writing for and what purpose I am writing.…

    1) Throughout the course, one of the most helpful things was hearing your personal stories from different times as an educator in relation the topics of the week. It gave us perspective on the topics we were reading about and it often felt easier to comprehend when hearing it through your own experiences. Another strength from this course was learning about Out of School Literacies and how almost any material can be implemented into our lessons. Watching videos on how students incorporated rhymes and music to learn about science was engaging and fun. It gave me ideas on how to incorporate outside sources to create a thoughtful and challenging way to get my students engaged with concepts.…

Throughout the day on Friday, October 2, 2015 I keep track of the activities, emotions, and thoughts that I had throughout the day. As I recorded these actions, I was able to notice that we as humans are more active then we think we are. Our actions, emotions, and activities are all controlled by various parts of the brain working together at once. Friday morning I had to wake up early and go to my Honors English 101 class and turn in an essay. The part of the brain that controlled my ability to wake up was the brainstem, in particular the Reticular Formation.…
