“Summation” Leaving English 101 four essay smarter, is one of the best feelings ever. At the beginning of English 101 I would I have considered myself a “not so good writer” why? Because I still didn’t know where and when to use commas, how to have a good conclusion to any essay I wrote. With the help of Dr. Criswell and my classmates I was able to take Dr. Criswell expertise and some of my classmates writing tools that they knew to have fix and make myself a better writer. I would recommend this class to others not because the workload wasn’t so much, but because you learn from your own mistakes and not from what the teachers think you should …show more content…
I chose Maya Angelou poem “Still I rise”. I chose that poem, because I felt like that poem was a message not just for me but for anyone who felt like giving up because others said they weren’t good enough. Maya Angelou poem had rhyme scheme and figure of speech for example, she used simile “Just like moons and like suns just like hopes springing high” She compared her self to the moon and the suns light. To make my essay better my group decided that I should have a better conclusion and not just stop talking about the poem, also to include more examples of literary …show more content…
The movie Othello started off a bit boring and I didn’t get the point of the movie, but by me reading a summary off the movie I begin to understand. When we watched the last hour of the movie it became more interesting and understandable. Othello was a general who married the women of his dream but let the lies of other determine his future. Othello was considered a tragic hero. Othello realized his faults at the end of the movie but by then it was too late. Writing this essay, I used more of outside source then the movie for example I read notes from cliff notes and enotes to help put my paper together. We were not able to get opinions from our classmates on how to make this essay better. I had to use what I learned from previous classes and what Dr. Criswell and my classmates taught

Growing up as a hispanic woman in America has always been more difficult than I thought it was going to be. There were many times where I felt excluded, judged or like I am not as good as other people. Throughout my life this has always affected my happiness because it was never as easy as I wanted it to be. With that being said, many people that are also a different race also struggle with this problem and this affects their wellbeing as well. I came to realize what a struggle being a person of color is to other people as well after carefully reading a short story by Junot Diaz called “Wildwood” and a poem by Claudia Rankine called “From Citizen Six” where both of the characters were treated unfairly, and ran into issues on a daily basis because…

A telltale sign of a good story is when one can identify and relate with the characters. Shakespeare is known as one of the absolute best at creating flawed characters that are still worth caring for. It’s difficult to connect with real people and fictional characters alike when they present themselves as flawless, because human beings aren’t perfect and they relate and bond over these imperfections. One of Shakespeare’s greatest yet most troubled characters is Othello; a courageous man, blind to his own detriments, who that has worked for everything he has despite imposing circumstances. Othello is an extremely complex individual whose personality traits coincide remarkably well with those of world-renowned rapper and fashion designer Kanye…

The true Native American culture died long ago, leaving only the aspects that white people can embrace in order to deny that they forced the death and assimilation of Native Americans. Native American culture has become lifeless culture losing everything but what the dominant culture deems to be profitable. The binding classification of being a Native American in a society where Native American culture is devalued and made into costumes forces the modern Native American to play a part in America’s romanticized Indian culture festival or to blend in with the crowd. As seen in “The Real Indian Leans Against” and “A New Story”, Native American culture has not survived because whites deem it worthless, forcing its members into assimilation and submission.…

Othello’s many shortcomings, from his insecurities, personality, and pride, were the ultimate reasons for his and Desdemona’s downfall; Iago simply accelerated the process. Othello’s vulnerability to those around him—from pressures of being a black man in a white society, to his all-trusting naiveté in a man who despised him, to his clouded judgment and rash behaviour with his final confrontation of Desdemona; drove him to the brink of insanity and was the cause of his death. Othello represents the incompatibility of marriage that comes with some due to the complete fault of one…

This semester, I have learned a lot from this English 101 course. I have not only learned from you, but also from my peers and myself. Entering this class, I had a good understanding of what this course was about because I took a pre-English class over the summer. Although I feel it provided me with a decent grasp of the course, the material of pre-English was condensed into six weeks, so there was still a lot left to learn. English 101 was very beneficial because it helped strengthen my writing as it also gave me an introduction to college writing.…

I Simply thought it would be another writing course with boring prompts and no challenge similar to high school, but I was wrong. In this semester alone I learned more about writing mechanics, structure, heading, organizing and sourcing than I had previously in my high school career. This being said I was not prepared for this course and did not earn the grades I wanted, but I learned from all my mistakes as I wrote each paper it became slightly better. I feel that high school does not do an adequate job at preparing you for the difficulty and challenge that is created in this environment.…

    Identity In Othello

Shakespeare’s Othello is one of his most interesting and controversial plays that really gets at the heart of human nature and questions the concept of perception and people’s relationships with one another. In the play, Othello, a successful general in the Venetian military, is led into jealousy and violence towards his wife from the lies of “honest” Iago. Various scholars of the play have attempted to explain Othello’s character and how such a high-status, noble man could have so easily descended into a simple vengeous murderer. Many theorize that behind Othello’s fragile facade of pride and nobility is a deep-rooted insecurity and naivety that leads him to be suspicious, and later, violent.…
