Schools across the United States are becoming diverse. A number of students whose mother tongues are not English are increasing in the classrooms. American society consists of different cultures, ethnicity, and religions. English Language Learners (ELLs), as known in our educational system, are one of the fastest growing groups of populations in US schools. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, “ [t]he percentage of public school students in the United States who were English language learners was higher in school year 2012–13 (9.2 percent, or an estimated 4.4 million students) than in 2002–03 (8.7 percent, or an estimated 4.1 million students) and in 2011–12 (9.1 percent, or an estimated 4.4 million students)”( English language learners, 2015). ELLs are born in the US, but do not speak English, and others came from foreign countries who have little English (Weisman & Hansen, 2007). ELLs struggle and have twice the difficulties in the classrooms because they have to learn knowledge and skills a long with learning English. Many different strategies are provided to help teachers…
