My Weakness In English

However, english is one of the major courses you have to take over the period of schooling therefore I tried to become a finer student. Despite my attempts I didn’t see much improvement until I came into English 103. Before the course I never grasped the concepts of what a thesis statement was or when commas needed to be inserted. Although this period has gave me several skills that will enhance my academics within my major academic discipline, in areas such as mla format, introductory paragraphs and concluding paragraphs I have seen improvement. For example, “The British School System compared to the American School System is quite different; several words are spelled differently, along with the class setting and learning styles ‘LEN Essay’” was one of my past sentence that wasn’t well constructed. This issue use to bother me because I didn’t see much improvement due to my bad writing habits. Yet, I began to understand how to fix this issue overtime. I had to change my attitude towards writing assignments and use more detailed sentences in my paragraphs with the appropriate adjectives. You have to be able to write well-built sentences to advise your associates and employers on how to run their company and how their money should be spent. In English 103 we went over the rhetoric and how to interpret it in our sentences. I believe this has enhanced my writing skills when it comes to the business world because now I can persuade people in writing more effectively. So far I haven’t taken another class that involves writing however, once I am enrolled in the business school I believe there will be several incidents when I will need to be able to write and this course is preparing me for this as well. The art of persuasion doesn’t only involve writing, it involves speaking as well. In the business world I will have presentations and meetings where I will have to be able to communicate and sway workers to understand my points and act on them accordingly. That is why pathos, ethos and logos will all come into play as I continue my education which will lead onto a

During the first few weeks of ENG 1301, we’ve learned the significance of learning rhetorical skills while writing; specifically, the rhetorical triangle - also known as ethos, pathos, and logos appeals. Whether you need to beg your parents for more gas money, or you want to receive a raise from that revolting fast food chain you’re forced to work at to pay college tuition, these appeals are the foundation of persuasion and can move an audience in any which way the author pleases to do so. In order to be accepted into a community, one must deeply understand the overall purpose and interests of the group. Once this happens, you’ll be able to intuitively understand the discourse community’s way of communicating and interacting with one another.…

I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. As I think about my experiences throughout the semester of English 101, I have realized that I have learned some very important requirements that are important to help improve my writing. “Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything (George Bernard Shaw).” During this course, reading and comprehending the materials given was not only a tough task for me but it was also demanding. I was challenged to change my thought process on what it was to be a good writer.
