In addition, characterization in The Giver is a crucial element in elaborating on character motivation.
In the novel, it mentions, “The next morning, for the first time, Jonas did not take his pill. Something within him, something that had grown there through the memories, told him to throw the pill away” (Lowry 129).
As you can see from this excerpt, Jonas’s personality is changing. Before, he use to follow the rules and live what they consider a “regular” life in The Giver’s world, but now he is rebelling. At the same time, Jonas wants to feel what effect the daily pill has on him. He wants to see what part of his life is taken away by the pill.
This demonstrates how Jonas is a dynamic character.
Furthermore, Jonas is also a round character.
