English Class-Personal Narrative

Many of my friends recall seventh grade as a relaxed break from the now typical hectic high school experience; however, whenever I think back to my time in seventh grade I get a nasty knot in my stomach. As I ponder every class, I skip over one in particular, English class. Not that I did poorly in that one class, but for most of the year I was incredibly lonely. English class was my second class of the day on my first day of school, and as I walked into my class I had a tremendous smile on my face awaiting what was ahead because I was looking forward to seeing my new teachers and classmates. As everyone sat down in their seats, I realized that I was sitting at a table with what looked like strangers and that I had absolutely nobody I knew …show more content…

The assignment wasn’t too hard, if you had a friend to interview, otherwise it was incredibly awkward just sitting down with someone you didn’t even know and asking them questions about their lives. We were given a few questions to ask our partner about their interests and hobbies, so we did that and just got it over with. It was strange talking to someone who you don’t really know about your own life and what you do in your free time. When we were finished, my teacher told us to chat with our partners and brainstorm what we were going to talk about in our paragraph. As she said that, I could tell that everyone saw that as an excuse to chat about the newest news in their own lives like they were at chatting at lunch. Meanwhile, my partner and I were just sitting there sharing occasional comments about the topic sentence, but that was it. My teacher must have heard the hesitation in our voices because she came over and guided us into conversation about our papers. She told us to exchange phone numbers so we could bounce ideas off of each other and help each other through the writing process. The funny thing is that as we started to talk to each other through texting, we actually started to become

After a grueling day of midterm exams, I trudge back to my dorm with a few of my friends to drop my school bag off before going to the Michigan Union to eat at Panda Express. Panda Express is one of my favorite restaurants ever, and I always get the same thing: one medium lemonade and one bigger plate with chow mein, fried rice, and a side of kung pao chicken. The noodles and fried rice already taste delicious, but the spiciness of the chicken combined with the two entrees simply explode in my mouth. Anyways, we made our way to my dorm in South Quad, all the while conversing about how each other’s exams went.…

During my first years as a high school student, I usually procrastinate on my assignments because I couldn’t balance the workload between my most challenging classes, which was my Honors English class and my AP European class. As a result, I end up having to choose between them as to what assignment I have enough time to do. That school year was one of the hardest for me. I was able to stay on track and handle my workload by writing down everything I had to do. To-do lists were very helpful for me…

One of the things that has significantly influenced my development was my Advanced Placement English Language and Composition class my junior year in high school. The class was taught by a phenomenal teacher, Mrs. Shaw, who made it virtually impossible for a student to fail the class because of her extreme dedication and amazing teaching. The class made me realize my potential as a writer. At one moment, it was a chore, something that I dreaded doing more than I dreaded washing dishes after Thanksgiving dinner. But after I completed the class, writing became something I actually looked forward to doing.…

From sitting in class the first day to week 10, I have learned so much. My strongest gain from learning in this class is looking inbetween the lines and seeing if the sentance is a opinion, fact, or generalization. this step helps me determine what this articles is going to be, fact or opinion. I also have gotten faster at pointing out the main idea. One of my weakest abilities still is to connect with some topics, if they are too bland or boring its very hard for me to understand what the author is trying to say, by realizing this I can focus more on stories that are harder to connect with and get better at understanding them.…
