I took english 43 and 48 together during my first semester at San Diego City College. I got an A on both the classes. Then I took english 49. I earned an A as well. English 49 prepared me to for all of writing and each writing style has it own purpose for the audiences. For example, in a persuasive writing, the author wants the audience to agree with him or her statement. It is trying to sell something to the audiences. In addition to differentiate the writing style, English 49 helped me understand that each professor requires it students different amount of pages for their writing. The professor made the class write a five page essay to prepare us for the next class level, and we might write more than five pages. The professor from my previous

Reflective Statement Before the interactive oral on the impact of translations in the understanding of novels, I never regarded the influence of a translation on my understanding. While reading The Stranger, I knew the book had been translated from French, but disregarded that the translation might lead to alterations of words or ideas based on the style of the translation. With books originally written in one’s own language, it becomes easier to derive meaning closer to the author’s intentions as meaning through translating the language. However, after the Interactive Oral, I have a greater awareness of such aspects.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

English has never been a strong suit of mine. Why Siena Heights placed me in English 102 will always be a mystery to me. English 102 is a class designed to teach students how to think critically, communicate effectively, and show effective use of technology. This is done through the study of summaries, grammar and sentence mechanics, argumentative practices, and structural development. This course is effective in teaching these objectives due to the clarity of the information presented, the personality of the teacher, and the types of assignments that were assigned.…

Your English 150 class helped comprehensively in developing my writing and oral skill sufficiently. As I was assigned to do the five major assignments excluding the E-portfolio, I learned how to creatively format my writings with a combination of formality and rhetoric. Generally, each different assignment has its unique style of writing which made me think about being a blogger in the future. Since writing is an artistic method of expressing feelings and converting them into written words, I was able to link my self to write about each aspect I am interested in. Doing the WOVE assignments will fully prepare for a higher English class in the future, like: English 250 next semester.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

I truly enjoyed having your English 070 class. I have experienced throughout this course difficulties, challenges, and most importantly the feeling of accomplishment after completing any assignment. During my high school time in Mexico, I really did not have the opportunity to write an assignment like how I did in this class, and what I found is that even when I got frustrated at some point, I really enjoyed writing them. I really was nervous at the beginning of the semester and I assumed that the work was going to be beyond hard.…

I have learned that the audience is one of the most important things in writing because it is who reads and how they perceive it; they get to see your point of view. Along with writing, we learned all these little things in between that are way more important than we think it is the style, tone and voice. For example, style is important in writing because without style your writing becomes a boring piece of writing or a poorly written piece. The tone of the writing conveys a message from you as the writer and affects the reader in a particular way. I have learned that using an appropriate tone will help engage the reader and propel him or her to action and the writer’s voice is something uniquely their own.…

I am not an avid fan of reading and writing. Since I was a child I had always seemed to struggle with English and excel in other areas such as in Math or Science. Although I may have struggled I had always taken advance placement and honors English classes. Up until my senior year, I had taken classes such as AP English Language and Composition. My senior year I had choses to take regular English because it would be much less time consuming that AP literature.…

If I were being honest then I would say coming into English 102 my writing skills were worth a low C. Prior to English 102 writing for me would be very confusing and stressful. As I read the short stories and drama in class my writing started to improve because I saw different angles and point of views that a writer has to offer to his/her audience. By reading Shakespeare it helped me understand how to develop a certain form of…

Reflection: The way my wardobe is structured, and built is ultimately what helps me make my decision when I getting dressed on an everyday basis. As my wardrobe is one with sliding doors, I am not able to see all my clothes sin one glance. This visibly tricks my eye, and reduces my wardrobe into what is described as a capsule wardrobe (see images below for all the outfits I wore this week). This observation reigns true with Sophie Woodward’s take on what the woman’s closet represents in Why Women Wear What They Wear where she states that “The wardrobe reflects and is clearly part of her general sense of order in life; yet, more than this, ordering her clothes helps her get it right when she selects outfits.”…

English 49 has done a lot for me academically in becoming a better writer and studier. In my essays I’m sure you’ve probably found strengths as well as weaknesses. Some that need to be worked on and some that have improved since the beginning of the semester, with of course some being more defined than others. But I hope in all they show more improvement than the latter. All though my proof reading skill still needs a little work, I know I’ve improved quite a bit as a writer.…
