The senior grade at Tupelo Christian Preparatory School had managed to split up into two sections. The 4.0 National Honor society students travelled the high road and took a collegiate level English composition course, however, the athletes and educationally challenged were thrown into the melting pot of English 4. The course, led by Mrs. Elaine Bunn, turned out to be the favorite class of the majority of students. English 4 had sky-scraping highs, rock bottom lows, and a valuable strength branded into the young students. The highest point, of English IV, was unarguably turning in the last paper. The last paper represented countless outlines sketched on papers, long nights spent behind a bright computer screen, and the returning of grades that either glorified or mocked the work …show more content…
Among these strengths were vocabulary and grammatical rules, each practiced through the use of writing papers, however, all papers had one common similarity. The dreaded MLA controlled every paper we wrote in English IV. When MLA was first introduced, it was thought to be both difficult and useless. The new paper writing format is very difficult to become familiar with. The most difficult part of this format is the citing. Their is no shortcut to learning MLA, it can only be achieved through relentless practice. As these slow and challenging practices became daily, the entire class began to wonder why on earth we were learning this. Mrs. Bunn would tell us that colleges would require it, but the students dismissed the reason. Within weeks in my first college English class, low and behold the infamous MLA format is the center of the entire course. In conclusion, the last English class I took was English IV led by Mrs. Elaine Bunn. This class had tremendous highs mixed with difficult lows. The beauty of English IV was that the last strength obtained in my high school career is the first applicable strength in my college

Accelerated English 4 has been a class that has been one of my best English classes. The class taught me many new techniques along with improving my skills that I already knew, though not all were improved. My strength in vocabulary was still as high as it was while my ability to transition had improved quite well, though my ability to create a well styled paper was still suffering. When Accelerated English 4 started there was no excitement about the papers I would have to write.…

English 1105 has been an important learning experience for me and my writing processes. After a response paper, discussion boards, and formal essays, my writing style and process has changed drastically from how it was prior to this class. Each assignment that was required has shaped me as a writer. The response paper helped me to analyze the content of an argumentative work and put into words how I felt about each aspect. Although not time consuming assignments, the discussion boards have provided opportunities to discuss issues with classmates openly and argumentatively.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…
