English 177: Course Analysis

Decent Essays
Hello everyone,

This will sadly, be my last blog post for English 177! Today, I finished my last online quiz and wrote my Assignment #6 blog post. In this post, I just want to share with all of you the things I learned in this course, my various thoughts about English 177 as a whole and anything else that comes to mind.

Firstly, I gained a lot of knowledge from this course. I learned about the various different styles of writing an essay like argumentative, persuasive, cause and effect, definition etc. Each style of essay drastically expresses the writers content in a different way. For example, if you are arguing a point you would write an argumentative essay and follow the argumentative essay plan (which would include an introduction with a thesis statement, paragraphs each with their

In regard to online learning, this is not the first time I've taken a course online. However, this was the first time I took a class online with Athabasca University. As a whole, online learning is great. I actually prefer online learning as opposed to taking classes in person. I work full-time as well as, being a full-time student, so when I have the luxuary to take classes online I do it because I can work it around my life instead of working my life around the course. I can do it at my speed at like 3am in the morning if I want instead of at a set time, at a set place and at a set day of the week. English 177 in my opinion, is a great way for native English speakers to brush up on their knowledge of the English language. It is also great for non-native English speaking people too. I have no complaints for the course. I liked the format and how everything was laid out, I appreciated how quick the tutors were to address any of our concerns and I appreciated how well explained everything was. All and all, I would recommend this course to a friend if they are in search of an English course that they can do

Hello, My reason for substituting this course is due to the fact that I have already learned the knowledge and concepts from a course taken from a previous school (ENGL 102 from the Community College of Philadelphia) which satisfy the course objectives for ENGL 202C. With this course, I learned the techniques I need to write an effective technical paper. During this course, I wrote multiple papers which dealt with various aspects of our world today, such as science and technology, social interaction, and economic facets. This gave me an advantage because not only did I know how to write an effective paper in science and technology (the main theme of ENGL 202C), I also wrote on other factors of life which allowed me to broaden my horizon and…

There are three strategies that I use when it comes to planning my essay the first strategy that I choose is determine the type of essay it is. For example, is it an essay that is going to cause me to evoke emotion and try to get my point of view across or is going to be an essay that is simply informational? Once that is determined, I then try to ensure that I find a way to write down all of my thoughts and ideas about the topic. Lastly, when it comes to planning my essay I like to formulate my thesis so I have a clear picture of exactly what the body of my essay is going to be about. When it comes to an argumentative essay the items that define the essay are the development of the argument, refuting the opponent argument, and the conclusion summarization the argument irrefutably.…

A few months ago, when I was still in high school as a Senior I was placed in an AP English course because of the program I was in. The program placed all the students in the course regardless of if they were considered AP English ready. During the course, there were over several writing assignments, each on novels or quotes. However, my teacher kept informing me that my writing needs to improve to reach the college level. Yet I continued to complete assignments without understanding the mistakes, simply to earn the grade for because I turned an essay in.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

English composition was never my strong nor favorite because of my knowledge of the grammar and organization in my writing. Taking English 101 is a jump start for me, because last year of high school my teacher focused primarily on English literature. The course has introduced me to rhetorical analysis, and swatching (imitating author argument). Throughout the semester and all of the papers written I can say that it was a good experience to write at a college level and the expectation from college professors is good for future courses that involve writing essays.…

With all honesty, after reading the syllabus and the chapters of the books, Taylor had found it difficult to write how English 102 could put any real definition in his educational life. Though this class is meant to make Taylor a more effective writer it seems as if this class and the class before are just the same high school english classes with more pressure added because of the level. In the past Taylor had to use similar books that went by the same context and at the time the writing seemed difficult, but now the writing isn’t difficult it just seems antagonizing to continue the same gamble hoping for a new outcome and a sharpening of skills. Though Taylor knows he needs the class in order to make advances in life due to his choices for a career. Still at this point in time Taylor does not see the full necessity within the class.…

At the beginning of this English course, I was so nervous and scared that I would fail. I do not think I have ever been a good writer. It has always terrified me because I have difficulty putting my thoughts down on paper. This course has proven to be highly inspiring to me as well as frightening. It has really taught me more about the understanding of the writing process and structure, in which helped me to not focus so much on the actual writing parts.…

A writing experience that has stood out the most for me was when I was a sophomore in High School. There was a girl in my class who I wasn't so fond of who one day decided to announce to everyone that she had begun to write her own stories. She showed everyone pieces of her writings expecting to get nothing but compliments and be to deemed the class writer, but when she finally showed me her work I cringed at how deplorable it was. The stories had no clear perspective of whether it was written in first person or third person view, some of the simplest of words were spelled wrong, and many words were used in the wrong context. The class didn't seem to care for her stories so they just gave standard responses with no words for…
