An Enlightening Experience
English 1301 is a mandatory prerequisite for most of the programs for Associates degree. In my first academic advising session for my first semester at HCC Southwest, I was excused from taking it as I had earned a qualifying score on my TOEFL. I was glad to learn that, as it meant one more checkmark on the long pre-requisites list for the Dental Hygiene program. During my second academic session at Coleman College, the advisor spoke to the program director for to determine the validity of my claim. To our surprise, it was not true, and hence I was required to take this class in order to qualify as an applicant. As this class comes to an end, I can say that it happened for a reason. My case was no different, I thought that this class was going to be a no stress, leisurely, and embracing the writer in me types. Instead, there was so much to learn and required me to be always on my feet. After going through so many readings, you learn to notice the structure and organization of it, and try to inculcate it in your writings. The main guide was the detail instructions on eagle online for each writing assignment. It was a full proof guide with instructions for paragraph structures, using CECC2 in your writing, tips on how to get started, etc. A proper structure makes the writing so much more enjoyable and gives a new dimension to it. I have never thought of it before in my life. Now it all makes sense why certain authors are so relatable and a treat to read. It is surprising how on a daily basis we use different tones while speaking, but never consider it while writing. Keeping the audience and the tone in mind is so much important for you work to be effective, and to not be misunderstood by them. Always write for your audience to be a good writer.
Instead of it being an eight-week class, I have gotten a lot out of it. I am aware of many writing schemes and format; in fact, I have gotten better at reading as well. There are many rules to writing and I have been lucky to have learned a few from this class. Knowing that this is my last assignment, it makes me sad. I have developed a new found love for writing by being in this class and I wish to maintain it for the rest of my life. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with

I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality.
