English 111 Week 1 Assignment

For this assignment I decided to interview my English 111 professor; Michelle Christensen. I chose her because she is the type of person I want to be when I grow up. She is very outgoing, advanced and passionate about her work. She considers her leadership style to be similar to that of a transformational leader, who revolves around collaboration with students and working in reciprocity to one another. Throughout this interview, I not only learnt about a new leadership style, but I learnt a lot about my professor.
Professor Michelle was born in Huntington, WV, who has taught for two years. She is now an ENG 111 professor at Miami University. First and foremost, she decided to follow the path of an English major because of her love of literature.

I aim to collaborate with my peers, and then move from their, I believe that five heads are better than just one. One drawback of being a leader that Professor Michelle mentions is the pressure of performing a specific way, and I completely agree with this. Relating it back to soccer, as a goalkeeper you are expected to be a leader on the pitch, and sometimes that pressure to be a leader and focus on your own performance, is a lot to handle sometimes. While for Professor Christensen she has the pressure of teaching us and balancing her own school work. She maintains this standard for herself as trying to make sure my students are learning and feel comfortable with the material we’re exploring in class. Lastly, everyone has people they look up to, my professor's role models are Kurt Cobain, Judith Butler, and Michel Foucault. Focusing on just Judith Butler, she inspires her the most because Judith encourages Michelle to continue challenging herself in academia by working with various fields of study, and to strive to be the best scholar she can be. Overall, role models are people you ultimately look up to and try to mirror yourself after, and this is who my teacher tries to mirror herself

My experience to English 1101 was totally different from my high school English class, but it was also a good learning experience. Making the transition from high school was a lot different because of the fact that college you only have the class for a semester and in high school you have the same teacher all year. It was placed on the corner of Derne Street and Temple Street, in Boston Massachusetts. It was a school opened for boys who did not plan to attend Harvard or could not afford it. I think that this school opening played a key role in educational history because public schools today give all kinds of students the opportunity to learn just as this one did.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…
