English 1101: What I Learned In My Class

Improved Essays
Throughout this course I have learned quite a bit, and considering that this is the second time I am taking this course, that is saying something. However, I did show up for this semester a lot more than I did in my previous semester so that’s probably a contributing factor. I also believe that I paid attention far more this semester than I did the last time I took this course. English 1101 has actually been one of my favorite courses I have taken at SRTC. Perhaps that’s why I’m taking it a second time.
I have always enjoyed reading and writing, in fact, when I was younger I was determined to become a writer. I have a way with words that just comes naturally and easily to me. I have always been like that, and even in the third grade, I was

For this assignment I decided to interview my English 111 professor; Michelle Christensen. I chose her because she is the type of person I want to be when I grow up. She is very outgoing, advanced and passionate about her work. She considers her leadership style to be similar to that of a transformational leader, who revolves around collaboration with students and working in reciprocity to one another. Throughout this interview, I not only learnt about a new leadership style, but I learnt a lot about my professor.…

How would one describe the normal student? Solely base it off of the student’s physical features and life styles, or the student’s political stand point? In a class survey, the results showed that a normal student in an English 1102 class at Valdosta State University is a first year student between the ages of eighteen and twenty-one that lives in Georgia and believes college is very important. The surveys were split up into three or so categories. One being the Student’s Lifestyle, the second is all about College, Demographics, and Technology, and lastly, it was about Politics and Sex, Dating, and Relationships.…

Growing up as a kid I never really enjoyed reading and writing. It was and probably will always be my least favorite subject, nothing against you my lovely English professor, but I just don’t enjoy it. The only time I really enjoyed reading as a child was when I got my first leap pad and I eventually destroyed it and it was probably within 2 weeks of getting it,…

English 1101 has been very helpful so far. I have learned that I definitely have things to work on while writing formal papers. I also have learned that I should take extra time when looking over my papers before hitting the submit button. I think the biggest challenge really is working full time and going to school full time. I think it is difficult to balance the amount of school work I have to with the time that I have when I am not at work.…

    Rhetoric In English 1002

In English 1002 you learn a style of writing that is vastly different than the writing I did throughout high school and it varied slightly from the work we did in the Fall 2016 semester. In high school, many of my papers could be written with little revision and they also focused mostly on literary responses, like writing book reports that took little effort and could be written along with the rubric and receive a good grade. In high school the most sources I was ever required to get was ten, so you can imagine how Unit II was a bit of a surprise that we needed fifteen sources just for the draft of our bibliography. The biggest lesson I have learned from this class is how to conduct real research. Before this class I never spent time looking for sources and just pulled pieces together to make them work together.…

My revision of “Face it, America!” that follows this cover letter reflects what I have learned in English 1021 so far. While revising this essay, I learned when to use present tense in my writing and past tense in my writing when appropriate. In this class, I have learned to use more transitions and appropriate transitions in my writing. My revision reflects this because in my second paragraph where I mention the significance of police officers, I use transition words for every new sentence that needs it.…

After the hard and dedication, I put into English 101, I received the grade I was expecting. When Dr. Criswell asked English 101 to write an essay on what grade we expected to receive and how was we going to make that happen, I answered the question by saying “I am going to get an A in English 101, because I will put forth great effort in all my assignments.” There is no difference between the effort and the achievements in the course, I applied myself and was able to learn new writing techniques and new English grammar. My achievements in English 101 helped me also. I was instructed to write a formal paper in one of my other courses, with the material I learned in English 101 I was able to apply what I learned about writing formal…

I have learned so much in English 1011, but there are three things I feel are the most important. I feel like that most important things I have learned are the importance of being present in class, how to write a research paper, and the importance of using a comma properly . One of the most important things I have learned in this class is being present in class is very important and can be critical in passing a class. In college classes it isn't like high school where if you show up and have missed a couple days you can catch up easily and turn in things late.…

With my first and final semester of english 1001 closing down, the most valuable lesson I learn this semester is you must put in the effort to get the grades. I can see my growth as a writer increase; at the beginning of the semester my writing skills where dull from a summer without any writing assignments. I believe with all the small assignments the professor Adamo assigned I was able to sharper my skills quickly and efficiently. Also the time i put into the writing lab helped me. The wonderful student helpers would review my papers and make sure I would hand in the best paper i was able to write.…

    English 1023 Course

At the beginning of this semester, I did not expect that the course English 0210 will be useful as most of my older friends, who took it, said that it is very boring and a waste of time. Therefore, I was disappointed and put in mind that it is a very traditional course like many useless courses; and I thought if it happened and made a change, it would generally improve my grammar and English skills but not to a great extent. After approximately two weeks and starting to engage more in the class, tasks and assignments, I found my mind getting better and more comfortable with thinking in a critical and creative way. Moreover, this reflected on mostly all of my English skills, yet I am still suffering from some problematic issues with…

English 111 has been very rough and long but has taught me a lot, from how to start my paper to the conclusion of my paper. Sometimes I still do not apply everything I have learned and I am not afraid to admit to that because we all make mistakes. This class has defiantly gave me a better understanding on how to write the “perfect” paper. Also it is nice to know that you can email your professor whenever and they will help you with whatever you need help with. The professor tries to answer questions as quickly as possible but she does have many other students.…

In this class, I have learned to use MLA formatting, writing strategies and processes for different audiences and purposes, a variety of rhetorical strategies and processes for analyzing, and how to revise my work with attention to purpose, development, style, grammar, punctuation.
