For this assignment I decided to interview my English 111 professor; Michelle Christensen. I chose her because she is the type of person I want to be when I grow up. She is very outgoing, advanced and passionate about her work. She considers her leadership style to be similar to that of a transformational leader, who revolves around collaboration with students and working in reciprocity to one another. Throughout this interview, I not only learnt about a new leadership style, but I learnt a lot about my professor.…

How would one describe the normal student? Solely base it off of the student’s physical features and life styles, or the student’s political stand point? In a class survey, the results showed that a normal student in an English 1102 class at Valdosta State University is a first year student between the ages of eighteen and twenty-one that lives in Georgia and believes college is very important. The surveys were split up into three or so categories. One being the Student’s Lifestyle, the second is all about College, Demographics, and Technology, and lastly, it was about Politics and Sex, Dating, and Relationships.…

English 1101 has been very helpful so far. I have learned that I definitely have things to work on while writing formal papers. I also have learned that I should take extra time when looking over my papers before hitting the submit button. I think the biggest challenge really is working full time and going to school full time. I think it is difficult to balance the amount of school work I have to with the time that I have when I am not at work.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

Dear First Year Writing Assessment Committee: In this letter, I will explain my learning outcomes and experiences with my essays for English 1010. English 1010, defined by academic standards, is to develop in first-year college writers a deeper understanding of the complexities of writing through instruction and guided practice in the skills, processes, and strategies necessary for effective, successful writing. In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…

Prior to English 101, I have been taking several English classes, but each class helped me little by little to an English 101 student. Learning to have efficient studying habits such as study the day of the class and not doing things last minute. Also learning how to actually study other subjects and how to think critically. This has increased my learning habits. My student habits have changed dramatically,…
