English 1101: Improving My Writing Skills

Decent Essays
In English 1101 I have improved my writing skills. I learn things from grammar, about run on words and how to put my thoughts together and put them on paper. I learn how to research paper. I learn how to change my writing process based on the guidelines of the assignment that I was giving. I didn't do really well in that class because of my bad time managing skill, I didn't get a lot of work done on time. I have a lot of things going on in my life. After school I go straight to work, and after that I can't do my homework or anything. I get tired, when I get home from work. Even if I try to do homework I always find myself falling sleep. When I look at what I need to focus on, I still need grammar work. A lot of times I use

During the first half of the semester for ENC 1102, I believe that my writing skills have improved from ENC 1101; some of which are getting to page length, correctly citing a source, and incorporating how a quote is related to my argument. I still have some errors within my writing that I have not quite figured out how to tackle. Some concepts that I have not gotten down to a tee must be coming up with a thesis statement, basic grammar errors, introducing quotations, and repetition. I have also learned how to distinguish the difference between a personal essay and an argumentative essay with first hand on the two types and how why my grade differed from essay one and two.…

There are many ways to go about teaching non-native speakers in an English class setting. Teachers can develop new strategies/skills that will benefit non-native speakers. Luana Spinetti writer of the article “7 Skill- Perfecting Tips for Non-Native English Writers” states, “Improving takes the guts to look for and accept constructive criticism, courage to draft, edit and rewrite, time and patience to pick up grammar books once more, and master both grammar, spelling, and your voice in another language”. When grading papers put more direct, instructive and extensive comments, for example, "You need a thesis statement at the beginning of this paper. " The teacher might even find the thesis statement later on in the paper and will tell the student…

Experience about English 101 This semester of fall 2016, I took English 101. Before starting this class I must say I felt nervous and unsure about myself. The objection of this class is to learn how to write with a clear content, accurately and my writing skills need to show beyond college level. I had trouble in the past with my writing skills and grammar.…

After examining the feedback given to me on my research paper, I have considered some ways to help improve my writing. There are many different areas of a paper that need to be considered when writing. For instance, the tone, audience, grammar, ideas, and sources all are important aspects of a paper. I need to continue growing in each of these areas. When writing papers, I often times struggle with considering my audience and my tone.…

Completing assessment one has helped me to develop more knowledge and skills such as formal writing style, language use, systemic rules and grammatical structure. As per Grellier and Goerke (2014) proofreading and editing helps writers to clearly understand the perception of the essay. Weekly readings, collaborations and blackboard activities have all helped me to improve my proofreading skills to identify grammatical and spelling errors in my essay. Additionally, using various grammar programs before submitting my essay will help to reduce grammar and spelling errors. Therefore, my writing structure, spelling and grammar use will continue to develop and improve.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

I want to start off saying that writing is by far my strong suit. I have trouble with finding purpose and the right words to say. I like to write about my own passions and not be required to include specific items or ideas. I basically only write for classwork like research papers and essay. Details are hard to write about and finding lots of things to say doesn’t come easy.…

Writing can be a struggle for a lot of people, including me. High school showed me that I clearly struggle with specific parts of creating a paper, or a short story. Like most people in high school I was given complements on my work, and some specific parts of my paper to work on by my high school instructors. I always had a great topic, or I thought my story was great. There is a similar problem I had then, and still have now.…

Throughout English Composition 1, I have learned several crucial writing skills. Writing skills that will benefit me in other classes, outside of school, and during my future college years. Not only will these benefit my overall writing and making it flow better, it will all in all make more sense to the readers. Even though I learned many skills and objectives during this semester, four skills really stood out to me. Cohesion, comma usage, the use of satire, and how to write a definitional essay.…

If I were being honest then I would say coming into English 102 my writing skills were worth a low C. Prior to English 102 writing for me would be very confusing and stressful. As I read the short stories and drama in class my writing started to improve because I saw different angles and point of views that a writer has to offer to his/her audience. By reading Shakespeare it helped me understand how to develop a certain form of…

English 101 taught me how to be more creative and broad about writing. Example on Essay 1 I didn’t really mention anything about Sonia Sotomayor’s mother not wanting her to work, and behind that was facts and important information about he context that I missed. I also approach my assignments differently now; I make sure my paragraphs are structured in the write order for an easy read for the reader. I realized when I start off with a good approach on a topic I have to tools and skills learned in class to expand ideas and write a solid piece of writing to read. I did also realize that I am bad to start off with, I haven’t seemed to find that spark to start me off right, so I guess that’s why they call it a shitty first…
