ESS 102 Writing Project There it was, the Pale Blue dot. A term coined by Carl Sagan which pleasantly haunted me through my years of astronaut training. It was not Mr. Sagan’s description of our little planet which ignited my interest in space and space travel. Rather, the insistence of those close to me that the feat of witnessing the Pale Blue dot was impossible for me. Yet here I floated, on what many call the greatest coordination of countries effort, knowledge and resources, and what others deem a waste of federal tax money; the International Space Station. Now that I was safely aboard, I had to take a moment to be thankful no Coronal Mass Ejections shot towards Earth during launch. We were aware of the plasma sometimes shot towards Earth containing energetic particles which can be up to 10 million Kelvin of CMEs. If a Halo event were to occur, where the particles of a CME were directed at Earth, instruments could be affected by the shock wave. My concern regarding the possibility of this event was minimal. My family who did not understand this threatening nature of the Sun were more concerned. They did not understand that CMEs were caused by the Sun’s magnetic field being wound up around itself creating coronal loops. These loops would twist due to the …show more content…
Back then, I was optimistic regarding my ability to impact the environment here on earth. I do not like to admit that this change of direction was due to the immensely, overwhelming project of cleaning up the Earth’s surface. I’d rather believe that learning about the mass of space debris orbiting Earth drove me to return to college and pursue my PhD in Aerospace Engineering. I suppose I had lost hope that we could reverse the damage strewn across the Earth by humanity. My solution? Get a head start on the next environmental disaster humans were conspiring to

This is a 90 minute documentary produced by BBC on 7 August 2005 in the United Kingdom, written and directed by Paul Wilmshurst. It tells the story of the crew who flew the mission of Hiroshima and dropped the bomb, and focuses on the story of the people of Hiroshima who were the first ever victims of the nuclear retract. This movie can be also a drama or history one, as it touches emotions at specific points regarding the after-effects of the nuclear explosion. In addition, background music keeps changing (when it necessary) from one situation to another, especially while viewing the bomb's descend to the ground, and while telling stories by Japanese survivors after the attack. Furthermore, the use of match cuts establishes a well-developed…

Throughout my time in English 101, my writing has undergone drastic improvements. The first writing assignment I chose to revise was Project 1, the Advertisement Analysis. My first draft of Project 1 had no clear thesis and no specific claim, ideally, an easy problem to solve. However, this was a common issue in my writing in most of my projects this semester, so it only made sense to tackle this project and revise it first. To begin revising Project 1, I first established my thesis statement which was that: the “Best Buds” advertisement was effective because of the incorporated rhetorical strategies and the overall theme of loyalty.…

It’s amazing how the same stars we look at today are the same ones, more or less, that all humanity has gazed upon. Plato, Queen Mary, Martin Luther King—the list is endless but these great historical figures have all seen the balls of light and gas that shine in the sky tonight. That’s all they are, floating matter in a vast, unknown space we call “outer space” simply because it resides outside the front door. Space. It envelopes us like an old, soft blanket with moth bites here and stains there.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

Apollo 13 was a space mission that some may have viewed as a failure; it was, in fact, the complete opposite. Space entry has improved immensely, with the efforts and struggles gained from previous missions. In addition, one of the astronauts of this mission, Jim Lovell, “believed it was a success. The astronauts and the Space Control Center were tested on their ability to work together and that is how Apollo 13 succeeded” (Anastasio 90). Apollo 13 has bettered the space program by allowing future space entry missions to be more successful.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…
