English 1010 Reflection

Improved Essays
English 1010 has been an interesting experience for me. I came into this class not knowing what a lot of my weaknesses were in writing. My teachers in the past had always told me that I wrote well, yet they told that to everyone that would actually finish an entire essay. This class helped me discover my weaknesses.
I learned a lot about the difference of active and passive voice. I use a lot of passive voice in my writing and this class taught me how to use it in an effective way by limiting my use of it. I still use it a lot more than I should, but I have noticed a difference. My writing in all of my classes has improved and is clearer and more specific. I also learned that people do not know what I am thinking. I find it very strange that

My experience to English 1101 was totally different from my high school English class, but it was also a good learning experience. Making the transition from high school was a lot different because of the fact that college you only have the class for a semester and in high school you have the same teacher all year. I learned a few things last year in English 1101 that I didn't know. I learned how to do a film analysis on the movie The Village and how the colors from the movie had a meaning behind them. We also learned from the movie how the position of the camera means something.…

My revision of “Face it, America!” that follows this cover letter reflects what I have learned in English 1021 so far. While revising this essay, I learned when to use present tense in my writing and past tense in my writing when appropriate. In this class, I have learned to use more transitions and appropriate transitions in my writing. My revision reflects this because in my second paragraph where I mention the significance of police officers, I use transition words for every new sentence that needs it.…

What new ideas I have been learning in English 111 so far is how to the use rhetorical devices more in writing my papers, and notices them as well when reading. I always know what ethos, logos, and pathos were be I never try to identify them in my papers of in articles, textual artifacts or in media. So I enjoy learning about that so far. I think the challenges I am facing in this class is how to more into depth when explaining a quote, passage, and paragraph when I find the rhetorical devices in this in why the author say what they use and use certain words as they do, I think that can help is to may identify what kind of questions I should ask myself more when I’m trying to analysis my paragraphs. I think that would help me out tremendously,…

I've posted your earned mid-term grades in English 111 on Banner and will be glad to discuss your situation with you individually sometime next week, if you'd like. These are information grades. As usual, knowledge is power: What the grade tells you gives you a chance to be pro-active in ways that might ensure your success in the course. A proper response to a mid-term grade is neither resignation nor smugness. Without my forcing the issue, the overall average at mid-term in my two sections of English 111 happens to be exactly 2.0 or "C," a reasonable outcome for a first-semester college course, one that includes several failures by students who simply quit coming to class and submitting the assigned writing projects.…

On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

I did not expect English 1010 to be an easy class, but I did not expect to have to think as differently has I have. From this class I have definitely learned to time manage. Even if I did not always time manage in the class I now know that it is really important. I learned that if I have to tell my manager that I am not available on a certain day just so that I have a day for homework, I should! I am going to keep all of the feedback that I have gotten on the hard copies of my papers to help me in my future classes.…

I know that my strongest skill for english is listening and understanding during class for an assignment. I am also strong with communicating and getting my work done on time. In my english classes I seem to always struggle in expanding my vocabulary when writing essays. I struggle in a couple of other things in my writing that can be tweaked with work, for example, using overused words. My greatest academic strength are things that aren’t given one day and expected to be a master of it the next day, I prefer to understand it and learn it properly and go home to end being confused.…

Throughout the semester I have learned many things while in English 102 like for instance how to construct an argument, how to properly cite sources and develop a personal stance on certain topics that I am passionate about. While in this class I have developed my own “freestyle” type of writing, because many of the units were very opinionated it allowed me to actually voice my position on things that I felt needed attention drawn to. I believe that my writing skills have improved as far as me getting my point across and being passionate about what I am writing. My consistency on the other hand is something that I still need improvement on, but that still did not stop me from completing assignments. Our first unit for the start of the course…
