English 1010 Reflection

Probably the two biggest things I’ve learned from taking English 1010 is summarization and citation. At the beginning of the class, I struggled with not trying to make my summaries sound like lists. As I kept practicing, I learned how to reflect my writing style and voice into my summaries, while still being able to effectively get the point of the original source across. I learned how to add citations to my writing when quoting or paraphrasing a source, something of which I did very little in my writing before I took the class. English 1010 is also the first class where I have written a full length literature review concerning a discussion around a certain topic. This taught me how to break up my writing into smaller manageable pieces and how to analyze a subject through many different viewpoints. …show more content…
One thing I said in that narrative was that I struggled coming up with ideas at an efficient pace, something that I still struggle with. I stated that I wrote whatever came out of the top of my head, then edit it later in order to fix that problem. I know now that making idea webs and breaking down each point in my writing is a much better way to pick up speed when brainstorming. Reading the Narrative, it sounds loosely put together, and somewhat disjointed. Now, reading a more recent piece of mine such as my first Literature Review, I notice that the organization of my ideas has greatly improved, and has a much better flow than the Literacy
