English 101 is a course at Tacoma Community College, a building block for other classes as the course helps improve writing essays which make a substantial percentage of work completed. The course requires a unique perspective of English due to higher writing expectations that push the boundaries of thinking. Using such high standards, students can grow as writers while learning more about authors' philosophies and improve to their understanding on topics. "Consider a tree for a moment. As beautiful as trees are to look at, we don't see what goes on underground - as they grow roots. Trees must develop deep roots to grow strong and produce their beauty. But we don't see the roots. We see and enjoy the beauty. In much the same way, what goes on inside of us is like the roots of a tree." ( Joyce Meyer).
The product of this class will show significant benefits that will help later in life. The course can improve the technical process of writing, allowing students to learn how to correctly use language and grammar in their essays while conveying the idea. The discussions in class will enable different viewpoints of the topics to be debated strengthening opinions on the subject or building on others' ideas or changing perspective.
