English 101 Reflection

Throughout the first semester of English 101, I have learned not only many new writing styles and vocabulary words, but also I have learned a few things about myself. I have a passion for writing and I would love to continue to aggrandize my vocabulary, and continue learning new writing tactics. I believe that I am a great candidate for the second semester English 102 class because I contribute many things to the class such as; my outgoing personality and determined work ethic, my passion to write and learn, and my grade which reflects all of my hard work.

First of all, I have an over-the-top, garrulous and outgoing personality. I am not afraid to contribute my opinion to class discussions and to encourage other students to do the same. Some students have many great opinions to share but are too afraid to be the first one to talk in class, and I on the other hand love to throw out ideas to get a class discussion started. Aside from this, my personality is reflected in my writing, making it interesting and humerous. Although I like to engage in

I know I will be able to take what I learn in this class and apply it to many other classes that I will be taking in the future. From the beginning, I decided to pursue this course because of my curiosity to learn in depth about sentence structure, how to correctly complete essays of many different writing styles, and so much more. I especially enjoy how we keep it interesting by reading stories that have to do with what we are learning to get a feel for how to apply the topic. An example of this would be The Twelve Angry Men paired with learning ethos, pathos, and logos. I do not feel as though this is an ordinary writing class. I believe that since we focus more on how to improve our writing and not quite as much on grammar that that class should strictly be for students with that passion for

When I start my English 091 class, I had no idea of how to start a assay or how I could add some facts from any journal or other kind of information. Before this class I could say that I consider myself a terrible writer, I did not had a perfect grammar and neither a smooth writing. In many cases my writing did not make sense. Many times I just used to write whatever I had on my mind, sometimes I didn’t even plan before my final draft, I did not was organized . I have seen many improving things on my writing.…

It has been nine years since I have attended college and eleven since I have taken an English course. The first English Composition class I took in 2004, was very dry, and the expectations from what I remember were extremely low. We read excerpts, wrote reflection papers, and that pretty much sums it up. When I reviewed the classes needed for my current degree of interests, I immediately convinced myself English Composition would be the easiest way for me to ease myself back into college. My expectations were low only because of what I experienced before, and I felt this was the place to start in order to help bring my confidence up about returning to college.…

On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…

This semester, my writing, editing, problem solving, organization, comprehension, and communication skills as an English 20-1 student have improved. Some of the challenges that I’ve faced as a writer were starting an essay, trying to incorporate academic vocabulary, and putting details into my work. The essay question we received for Macbeth was extremely challenging. After mulling over the question and still not understanding what it was asking, I solved my problem by dissecting it into pieces and determining what each piece meant, changing words or phrases as I went into terms that I could easily understand. I discovered that my vocabulary is lacking sophisticated and descriptive words.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
