This English 101 class has helped me in variety of ways in gaining and shaping skills in writing. I learned how do compose several types of essays including: professional, informal, casual, cause and effect, and argumentative and was given the format for writing these. Every week, the class was given one of these types of essay to write and throughout the class periods, I would start and finish them. I saw that if I outline these essays with key points of my topic before I officially being writing the first draft, an essay is not difficult to come up with. I would only have to include transitions, which I also learned, and maybe a few more sentences to make my ideas connect properly and flow smoothly.

At the beginning I discussed having problems with my papers. However, this class has forced me into working at a faster pace and made me realize that it was my procrastination that was holding me back. This class has helped me a lot with handling my procrastination habits.
I learned a lot more in here than anywhere else because we actually had a clear view about everything. I still believe that everything in this class is good as it is and I would not change anything about it. The pace we use to work in this class is pretty fast but I think that is the best way to keep out minds focused on task. One thing that I would have liked would have been having more time to work in groups so that we could have socialized more. Other than that, I really enjoyed being part of this class and I feel like it was a great

The good points have been that Mr. Stout gives us time during class to work and he is very reasonable with his due dates and pushes back deadlines if necessary. The out-of-class work was good, but a majority of the work I did on my essays I worked on in-class. The project work was not horrible, was not my favorite but I learned through the experience. Project work, I say, was the hardest to do in this class. Just because it is hard working with certain people and it is exceptionally hard when others do not do what they are suppose to do.…

When I start my English 091 class, I had no idea of how to start a assay or how I could add some facts from any journal or other kind of information. Before this class I could say that I consider myself a terrible writer, I did not had a perfect grammar and neither a smooth writing. In many cases my writing did not make sense. Many times I just used to write whatever I had on my mind, sometimes I didn’t even plan before my final draft, I did not was organized . I have seen many improving things on my writing.…

On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…

I enjoyed this class immensely because it took me out of my comfort zone. I've always appreciated quality furniture, and art work, but I never put the energy or effort to try to apply any knowledge or order designing rooms in my house. Additionally, taking this class made me examine myself. I asked myself questions like, why didn't you follow through on your projects? For some items I thought, Why???…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

Coming into this class last semester I didn’t know what to expect, not having taken any AP classes before, I was particularly anxious. I remember sitting there that first week constantly thinking “what have I gotten myself into?” I ended up staying despite being afraid of how I would perform because I trusted it would be a fun class based on the teacher and the familiar faces. I was right to trust my gut because the class quickly became one of my favorites in which I felt secure. The experience has been a new one for me, I’m learning from both the teacher and from my peers who are surprisingly very passionate about English class.…

In high school I was exposed to a lot of writing and reading from grades nine all the way through twelve. I learned how to write through literature for the most part but I also learned by building from the ground up. Through high school from freshman year through senior year we wrote 2-3 papers a semester. In my high school English class we did a lot of learning and writing through textbooks, and novels, and what was going on in the world around us.…

My first goal for this course is to write fast and naturally. Personally, writing in English is a time-consuming and stressful job for me. It takes me more time time than domestic students to write an essay. A lot of times, I sit in front of my computer for hours trying to figure out what I should write for my next sentence. Even though I thought of what to write in Korean, sometimes it takes me awhile to translate it into English.…

I loved that I was able to take what I had learned in class and be able to apply it in lab and have hands on experiences with the subject we were learning about. I am able to understand topics more thoroughly and learn better if I am able to do it and see it myself.…
