Upon entering English 101, it had been about a year and half since my last English class. Walking in on the first day there were several things that worried me one being my lack of knowledge on the subject and most particularly the “honors” bulletin board hanging outside the room that led me to believe I was placed into the wrong class. Shortly after being reassured by the other students I was in the right place I took my seat, which I occupied all semester while I was flooded with an abundance of new information. Throughout the semester I have learned several new things about not only English, but myself as well that I was unaware of beforehand.
Throughout the semester I have become more confident overall in my ability to generate my ideas and filter them into words. In high school none of my teachers required lengthy papers and some did not require any at all. I did not realize at the time the huge disadvantage this was to me. English 101 has pushed me more than any other class in the past had. At first, Doctor Edwins rigorous grading process stressed me out tremendously. I managed my time wisely, so I would have ample time to work on my paper and with the remainder of the time left I would go to the writing lab to get more guidance. This application has been very beneficial to me and helped me better understand the concepts. I have noticed when viewing articles or websites, I am now more cautious about the background and credibility of the authors. Once the authors seem to check out, I then go on to analyze the writing itself. This semester I became familiar with the different tactics that are used to pull the audience into the writing. These tactics, ethos, pathos, and logos, are used to appeal to the audience in a unique way. Learning these new tactics has not only helped me better analyze other writers works, but has also helped my writings as
