English has always been my favorite subject as it provides a solid foundation for every subject. It makes you understand things better and then express logically whatever you think. I know I can do the harder problems of mathematics and physics, I love working on mathematical theorems and equations, but I always used to struggle in English. One of the major reason is that it is not my first language and I am from such a country where it is not widely spoken. I always had a lot of ideas in my mind, but I had no clue that how to organize them and make them effective. I would love to learn new things and this is what my English 101 class has enabled me to accomplish in that. Writing is a form of social interactions and it also helps people to understand your thinking and thoughts.
When I first started taking English 101, one of the biggest challenges for me was writing the essay in the MLA format. I had never written any essay in MLA format before, and in august, I always used to wonder that why is it always necessary to write an essay in MLA format. However, I know realized that it is one

On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

The purpose of both the midterm and end-of-course essays is to provide students with opportunities to engage in critical and creative thinking about ways for practitioners and patients to work together toward health improvement in culturally responsive professional practice, despite differences and barriers of many kinds. Your goal is to write at least two paragraphs that show evidence of your own critical and creative thinking about any topics that you select from course readings. As you make your selections, think about the following larger questions and learning goals that this course is intended to address, recognizing that there are no easy or single right answers to these questions. What are you thinking about the issues and questions…

Dear First Year Writing Assessment Committee: In this letter, I will explain my learning outcomes and experiences with my essays for English 1010. English 1010, defined by academic standards, is to develop in first-year college writers a deeper understanding of the complexities of writing through instruction and guided practice in the skills, processes, and strategies necessary for effective, successful writing. In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…

While writing the critical essay reflection paper, I learned to identify the author’s thesis, and the purpose of the short story that I read to analyze. I then analyzed the structure of the passage by identifying all main ideas. The story was in another time therefore, the language used I had to consult a dictionary to understand material that was unfamiliar to me. I was able to practice one of my weaknesses which is outlining the work. I then practiced another skill that I want to strengthen, that is to write summaries.…

Writing assignments are the most stressful, hardest, and most annoying type of work I have ever had! My first story to prove my thesis came in the form of a demonstrative speech I had to write for my speech class, where for the life of me, I could not even pick a topic. Though writing my speech was difficult, a harder example of this came as a process essay for my English 101 class. Still, these two examples prove minimal when compared to the horrendous onslaught that became my English 101 Mid Term Exam!…

Over the course of this semester, I have had to complete about thirty different assignments just for English 101, that doesn’t include my other classes. This class is definitely where most of my work load was coming from. This in total has amounted to over 20,000 words being typed, plenty hours of sleep lost, and thankfully, no meltdowns. Everyone’s high school experience is different so some of you may be prepared for English 101 and some may not be. What you valued in high school will most likely spill over into your college career.…

As a class, we didn’t really base essays on writing in general or how writing is related to something, we just answered questions on how writing was showed in a specific article or book. Throughout the time I’ve spent in English 104 with a very good professor and understanding I feel that the learning I got was easily taught and give at a reasonable pace for me to get used to the new college atmosphere which is great and I really enjoyed my first semester. When Professor Horjus had handed out the directions for portfolio three I took this as another “yes”. Now I feel that I can write with ease and of course I am going to run into problems with my writing but who doesn’t? Its something that every great writer must encounter; for example J.K Rowling. I doubt she wrote Harry Potter in one run through.…

When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…

Did you know that in the course of one fall semester you can see the leaves change from a vibrant green, to a multitude of colors before they fell to the ground? In English 202 I have watched the seasons change as the semester passed. When signing up for a course as a transfer you don’t quite always know what you are getting into. Consequently, this led to me being blindsided the moment I walked into English and had to get back into the swing of things. At the beginning of the semester it seemed like it would be easy, however I learned quickly that it wasn’t going to get easier, and while though out the semester I improved in my writing on my essays, it wasn’t without its struggles.…

On the most fundamental level, I suppose you could say that I am in your English 150 class to fulfill a requirement for graduation. I had an interest in improving my writing, particularly my basic grammar, and I would have likely been inclined to take this class anyway. Having a basic understanding of how to effectively communicate both in a discussion and on paper is an important skill for everybody, so it is no surprise this class is a requirement. In regard to my major, which is intended to be music theory, it soon becomes writing-heavy and I would definitely do not want to be less successful in my career because my writing was unorganized and was constantly violating simple rules of English. My formal writing experience has all…
