I believe my effort I conveyed should be taken into account when deciding my final grade. The effort I put into this class is apparent due to the fact that I completed all of my assignments. All of my assignments, as well as the discussion questions, were fully completed either on time or before the time they were due. The grades

In reference to our team submission of the Negative message, we chose a writing style that fit the criteria for our particular assignment. Activity 7.11-(Customer bad news): Admission Message Erroneously Welcomes All Who Applied needed a gentle approach. In order for us to explain a large mistake the school made regarding all the students who applied, even those who received rejection letters; we needed a well-organized letter. We chose to open with a complimentary statement, which encouraged students to continue pursuing their academic dreams. We then chose to add the negative statement.…

For this assignment I decided to interview my English 111 professor; Michelle Christensen. I chose her because she is the type of person I want to be when I grow up. She is very outgoing, advanced and passionate about her work. She considers her leadership style to be similar to that of a transformational leader, who revolves around collaboration with students and working in reciprocity to one another. Throughout this interview, I not only learnt about a new leadership style, but I learnt a lot about my professor.…

In Unit V, lessons one and two was an excellent guide to follow as I began the process of revising my literature review assignment. However, what I have discovered in the revision process that was most accommodating for me, was to read each sentence thoroughly to prevent sentence fragment, comma spices, and run-on-sentence. Also, I realized that after I had corrected and made necessary changes to my initial literature review, putting the project away for several hours and then returning helped me to eliminate unnoticed errors I had overlooked in my assignment.…

    Causing Grade Disputes

In the article, “Student Expectations Seen as Causing Grade Disputes,” studies outline a troubling trend in the minds of America’s youth: Students deserve high marks just for fulfilling rudimentary requests. While this concept seems to be present in most teens’ minds, many others hold a different view. In the Patrick Henry AP English Language and Composition Syllabus, this idea is explicated with clarity: “The grade of A is a performance grade, not an effort grade.” In this class, neither attending live seminars nor relying on prior knowledge is enough to obtain an extraordinary score.…

Throughout this course I have learned quite a bit, and considering that this is the second time I am taking this course, that is saying something. However, I did show up for this semester a lot more than I did in my previous semester so that’s probably a contributing factor. I also believe that I paid attention far more this semester than I did the last time I took this course. English 1101 has actually been one of my favorite courses I have taken at SRTC. Perhaps that’s why I’m taking it a second time.…

I regard this an average, acceptable record of performance at the first-term college level. Students who earned D's at mid-term have accumulated 318-342 points (about 58-62%). This is marginally satisfactory work according to the standards that I try to apply in judging your work. Students who earned F's at mid-term have accumulated 266 points or fewer and are performing unsatisfactorily. Most students with a failing mid-term grade in English have over-cut and/or have failed to turn in all of the assignments.…

This English 101 class has helped me in variety of ways in gaining and shaping skills in writing. I learned how do compose several types of essays including: professional, informal, casual, cause and effect, and argumentative and was given the format for writing these. Every week, the class was given one of these types of essay to write and throughout the class periods, I would start and finish them. I saw that if I outline these essays with key points of my topic before I officially being writing the first draft, an essay is not difficult to come up with. I would only have to include transitions, which I also learned, and maybe a few more sentences to make my ideas connect properly and flow smoothly.…

After the hard and dedication, I put into English 101, I received the grade I was expecting. When Dr. Criswell asked English 101 to write an essay on what grade we expected to receive and how was we going to make that happen, I answered the question by saying “I am going to get an A in English 101, because I will put forth great effort in all my assignments.” There is no difference between the effort and the achievements in the course, I applied myself and was able to learn new writing techniques and new English grammar. My achievements in English 101 helped me also. I was instructed to write a formal paper in one of my other courses, with the material I learned in English 101 I was able to apply what I learned about writing formal…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

This class has been one of the most interesting, uplifting, and fun courses I have ever taken. Coming into this class I was unsure of myself due to the fact that I had taken English 101 in high school as a dual enrollment course and didn’t feel that it was up to the level and what an actual course would have been. Not only did I believe we would be graded far harder, but I thought we would be forced to write far differently from any of the assignments we were exposed to in English 101. After my time in English 102 with you, my expectations have been greatly exceeded. Not only did I excel both my writing and public speaking skills through the rhetorical analysis, controversy analysis, and public argument, but I was able to be taught…

Moore makes the claim that racism is deeply embedded in the English language. Moore explains his argument by stating that language is what defines a society and is an integral part of everyday life. Furthermore, one of his stronger claims is that the English language makes a play on "black" and "white words". Moore writes a paragraph displaying how uses of words like blackly, black eye, and blacklist, carries a negative connotation as opposed to "white" words: which defines into honest, decent, and pure, which carry positive connotations. Another great argument put forward by Moore is that a large number of Americans use words like "nigger", "spook", "chink", and "spic" etc.…

When sending out the grades they separated their grades from effort and achievement. In this case whether or not you did your homework and passed all your test it was separated from how well u comprehend and understood the field. This way of grading showed a great deal within the students. If this method of grading was done throughout our country their would be a large adjustment toward students mindsets. We will see an improvement of the students more fully involved with their education.…
