Researching for general topics for the literature review over a few days and discussing the sources discovered helped me narrow down my topic to a specific subject; negative effects encountered by Native American communities living in the proximity to radioactive storage, mining, and testing sites. Learning how to use search engines such as ProQuest and ScienceDirect has helped me find scholarly peer reviewed articles that coincide with this topic even though learning now to use these search engines efficiently took a few days. The required synthesis matrix for the literature review helped to lay out of information I had pulled from the source material and choose what information would be present in the final essay. For example, creating a specific schedule for composing an essay and following most of the steps has increased the amount of time to revise and edit my essay. Including steps like the synthesis matrix, or a longer research period has helped me compile source materials and present the sources accurately in the final essay. Thus, I was able to complete my goal of composing essays with a concrete plan enabling me to write efficiently and effectively throughout English
