Eng 101 Lesson Analysis

Decent Essays
I’ve learned many valuable lessons during my ENG 101 class and listing only two is difficult, but I will do my best. The first lesson I’ve learned is writing is a step by step process that will lead to a successful product if the process is followed. During this process, I incorporated Smarthinking, friends, and family for constructive feedback. With each rewrite, the paper took on a new shape, as if I were sculpting or painting a masterpiece. I kept a neutral attitude in receiving the feedback and knew it was being given with kindness and good intention for my success. The second lesson I learned is there are many steps to take to reach a destination and some may be more difficult than others. During this class, some assignments were

Though my personal mission statement feels as if it was written forever ago, I still have the same ideas in mind that I believe can connect directly to our class text, Becoming a Learner by Matthew L. Sanders. Sanders puts emphasis on why we go to college, what to do in college, work and finding purpose in education. My first and foremost goal in my mission statement was wealth and/or financial security. I want to be able to provide for myself and others comfortably.…

Hello, My reason for substituting this course is due to the fact that I have already learned the knowledge and concepts from a course taken from a previous school (ENGL 102 from the Community College of Philadelphia) which satisfy the course objectives for ENGL 202C. With this course, I learned the techniques I need to write an effective technical paper. During this course, I wrote multiple papers which dealt with various aspects of our world today, such as science and technology, social interaction, and economic facets. This gave me an advantage because not only did I know how to write an effective paper in science and technology (the main theme of ENGL 202C), I also wrote on other factors of life which allowed me to broaden my horizon and…

Every time a due date would come up for a major assignment, we took time to review each other’s work. I do not remember much from these various encounters, but I do remember receiving helpful comments. Granted, I may have felt upset by some of the things said, but I knew that the criticism I had received was right, and I wanted to do better because of the evaluations. This was unusually for me because before this course, I would hardly listen to others since I thought I was always right. Yet, that changed because I wanted to improve my writing, and to do that I had to listen to other people’s ideas.…

Last Day Diagnostic Today is my last day with English 101 and I’m pretty happy with how I have done over the course of these 15 weeks. English is certainly not my strongest class that I have taken and I often criticize my work, which makes it very difficult to write anything at all. I always have a lot to say but to get it down on a piece of paper is usually very hard for me. However, for this semester in English 101, I felt that I did a pretty good job at getting all my ideas down and have been pretty happy with my grades for each essay. I definitely have come a long way in this class and in English all together, which is very reassuring to be able to overcome one of my tougher classes without any issues at all.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

When it comes to Composition 1, I learned a lot. In the beginning I wanted to learn how to become a better and creative writer. I also wanted to learn how to come up with topics and write about them easier. One last very important thing that I wanted to learn was how to prepare myself for college next year. After finishing Composition 1, I can say that I did accomplish all of those goals.…

But after taking my first English Composition class this fall I realized how much important material and knowledge I have gained. Learning how to start the drafting process on a paper and build an effective was by far the most important skill I have learned in class. English 101 taught me how to be more creative and broad about writing. Example on Essay 1 I didn’t really mention anything about Sonia Sotomayor’s mother not wanting her to work, and behind that was facts and important information about he context that I missed. I also approach my assignments differently now; I make sure my paragraphs are structured in the write order for an easy read for the reader. I realized when I start off with a good approach on a topic I have to tools and skills learned in class to expand ideas and write a solid piece of writing to read. I did also realize that I am bad to start off with, I haven’t seemed to find that spark to start me off right, so I guess that’s why they call it a shitty first…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

However, as my time in History 101 comes to an end I have come to understand how beneficial it is. This course helps to remind us where everything once started and how far it has come. It teaches what worked and did not work for society so we may learn what to do to make the present and future more prosperous.…

Successful differentiation is all about proper planning. If a lesson is well planned and well organized, the chances of it being difficult or going awry are significantly reduced. For me, one of the simplest ways to differentiate my lessons has been in regards to individualized pacing. Making this possible, and manageable, took a few years, however, I have it down to a workable system that allows students to work at their own pace, to an extent, without creating chaos in my classroom or adding undue stress to my workload. While I believe in students having the time they need to successfully complete an assignment, I am also a firm believer in hard deadlines and learning time management skills.…
