For teachers, uniforms help school administrators identify outsiders, or someone who may cause harm to the school (Daniels par. 7). Most importantly, dress codes do not infringe on students’ rights. Daniels mentions how in January 2001, “the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the plaintiff’s argument that uniforms do not improve the academic environment, dampen student expression, and infringe on religious rights” (Daniels par.…

About 54% of schools in the United States have an enforced dress code that gives out restrictions on what students can wear, but many schools have thought about creating a stricter dress code so that their students would have to dress more professionally. By doing so, they believe that their students will improve in academics and that they will pay more attention in class, but having a strict dress codes will end up causing a lot more problems, and it will take away the individuality of students. School administrators believe that a stricter dress code should be enforced, because they think that it will cause fewer disciplinary problems. However, that is not the case, because once you create a rule, you will have to take effort to enforce…

According to Happel, a school may implement a dress code to comply with the principle of such rules, however “...studies suggest that there is no significant impact on these [the overall school environment and student achievement] through the introduction of uniforms” (94). If there is no significant impact, then why are more and more schools instituting dress codes every school year? The answer lies behind the false morality of administration that suggests that an enforced standard of “modesty”, set by such administration and enforced as it sees fit, protects the students from themselves. Educational systems were founded to help train future generations, and a major aspect of achieving this goal is enabling the students to have a productive learning environment.…

If kids weren’t required to wear a certain dress code, they would’ve the total freedom to come however they feel like. Many people argue that schools who required uniforms are taking the right of the students to express themselves in a unique way; however, schools who don’t require uniforms are promoting students to express themselves by the way they dress and not by who they truly are and their personality, so this makes them feel pressured to dress a certain way to be able to be accepted. This then becomes a social issue that creates competency among them of who wears the best outfit. Some kids may feel superior to others because they might feel “richer” by the way they dress, and the “poor people” start to become excluded from the society. This issue affects parents as well as they don’t want their kids to feel excluded, and be bullied simple because of what they are wearing on the…
