I would describe Petra and Dr. Stockmann’s relationship as strong. There was little to no conflict or trouble regarding their relationship throughout the play. Petra complied and agreed with Dr. Stockmann and he did the same with her. They agreed on most of the topics that came up throughout the play, and Petra stood by her father’s side during all of the complications that Dr. Stockmann encountered. Petra’s occupation as a teacher and her beliefs were extremely different to the majority of women in her society because back then, most women were housewives that just stayed home and took care of the house and children. Also, women and girls were denied an education because people believed boys and men were superior to girls and women. So that means that most, if not all teachers, were men. Since Dr. Stockmann raised and taught Petra to be a free-thinker, Petra believes that the school system is corrupt and the teachers are forced to tell the children lies and give them false
