Enduring Tribulations In Sonnet 138 By William Shakespeare

Enduring tribulations Cheating and lying, these are two things that almost always end a relationship. They normally cause the one who was cheated on to feel hurt, betrayed, and sometimes even furious at their partner. However in some cases when the one hurt feels true love for the one that cheated the relationship can endure. In both the poem, “Sonnet 138: When my love swears that she is made of truth” by William Shakespeare and the song “Keep on Loving You” by REO Speedwagon, the narrator stays with his lover even after she lies and cheats because he feels true love for her. In the song the narrator describes a different kind of lying. His lover cheated on him with multiple men. She acted like she wasn’t doing anything wrong and tried to play dead. ”You should have seen by the look in my eyes, baby.” (Cronin) In this quote from the song he is telling his lover that she should have noticed that he knew what she was doing by the look that was in his eyes. He knew this and still he stayed with her. His reasoning was, “When I said I loved you I meant I loved you forever… and I’m gonna keep on lovin’ you.” (Cronin) His true love for her kept them together even through one of the hardest things a relationship can experience. In both the song and the sonnet the narrator’s relationships endured some of the toughest challenges for a relationship, but in both instances they stayed together after all of the cheating and lying. They stayed together because they loved their partners completely and they ignored their faults and kept up the relationships.
