Endurance is very important trait to have for me. I use endurance to help me never give up and work hard until the end during soccer games. Even if my team is losing the game I keep enduring and believing that I can help my team turn the game around and win the game. In Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns two main characters in the story Mariam and Laila are both forced to marry a guy named Rasheed. Rasheed is aggressive and abusive towards Mariam and Laila. Through this painful time Mariam and Laila endure, then create a deep friendship between each other. This deep strong friendship leads to an opportunity for a better future for Laila and her kids as Mariam kills Rasheed, then sacrifices herself by turning herself in prison. As a result Laila lives a brighter better life by becoming a teacher through Mariam’s sacrifice. Endurance opens opportunities for friendships, creating hope, and bravery to stand up. …show more content…
Like when Mariam and Laila were together cutting and rinsing the Trout. Laila observes Mariam’s face and saw how she endures the abuse she received from Rasheed . Laila wonders if Mariam’s reality will become hers. After they both agree they are sinners Laila offers Mariam a cup of chai. “Laila rose to her feet.” “I know it’s chilly outside, but what do you say we sinners have us a cup of chai in the yard?” (Hosseini 250).
“They had a second cup, and when Laila asked her if she wanted a third Mariam said she did.” “And in this fleeting, wordless exchange with Mariam, Laila knew that they are not enemies any longer.”(Hosseini 250-251).
As Mariam and Laila share their first cup of tea it led to a second cup, then a third cup makes them open up to each other which changes the relationship between Mariam and Laila as enemies to trusting
