Endothermy Of Dinosaurs

The passage on the body temperatures of the dinosaurs dictate that dinosaurs were endothermic animals. Three reasons are being given for this arguement: existence of dinosaur fossils in polar region, the leg position of the dinosaur and the haversian canals in the bone structure of the dinosaur.

The fossils that have been founded in the polar region is being classified as a clear indicator for endothermy in dinosaurs. However, the lecturer confronts this point by highlighting the climate in the polar region when dinosaurs existed. She crafts this point by giving a chance to a non-endothermic animal’s chance to exist within these warmer enviornments at the summer. The professor says that endothermy might not be the only possible reason for the underneath position of the legs. She gives the enourmous weights that dinosaurs have as a pottential reason for his type of leg formation.

The last point that is being introduced by the passage as an evidence for endothermy of dinosaurs is the haversian canals that they have in their bones. This is being supported by further information givien in the text like the function of haversian canals to house nerves and blood vessels that allow rapid body growth. As rapid body growth is being categorized as a characteristic of endothermy this looks like a persuading point. But, as the professor starts to introduce us to growth rings that dinosaurs have this point gets weaker. The growth rings are rings that are being formated by the dinosaurs when they stop growing during cooler periods. As constant growth is required in endothermy the haversian canals’ blood vessels and nerves underperforms to prove us the endothermy of dinosaurs.

To conclude the professor is weakening every single point made in the apssage by clearly introducing the listener to new information at her
