The endocrine system is similar to the nervous system in that each controls body activities by communicating with body organs in different ways. The endocrine system and the nervous system work cooperatively to achieve and maintain homeostasis. Both systems perform their regulatory functions by means of chemical messengers sent to specific cells. Overall function of the endocrine and nervous system is the regulation of effectors to maintain homeostasis. They are both controlled by regulatory feedback loops. The endocrine effector is virtually found in all tissues and only in the muscle and glandular tissue within the nervous effectors.
