Ender's Game Valentine Character Analysis

What if you lived in a world without data? It might be difficult to complete certain tasks such as writing report cards. In the futuristic novel, "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card, uses information and data as something very valuable for two characters- Peter and Valentine. In the novel, words and information serve as ammuntion, influence, and deception for the characters. Peter uses words and information as ammunition in his conspirary to control the world. With Val's help they can "say the words that everyone else will be saying," as they build "intellectual respect" to "shape events." Here the author higlights the strength of their words to shape people's beliefs through Peter's persuasive dialouge with Valentine. With words as their ammunition, Peter will be able to gain control of his desire through non-violent means. Here we see that, like Hitler, Peter's words, said at the right time, can create support on a grand scale. In time, Val's avatar, Demosthenes, is given a weekly column which leads to her father's dissemination of her words. When Ender recieves the letter, he hated that he had no control life because they controlled everything. However, "the one real thing, the one preicous real thing was his memory of Valentine", but "she was one of them now." The author uses metaphor to show the control words have on Ender because Valentine's letter is a metaphor used by the author to illustrate they way in which words are the tools of manipulation. Ender is effected by these words because he begins to realize that he didn't have control of his own life because he could never make desicions.
