A hero’s journey is a commonly used plot in writing and Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card is one of those because of many reasons: Ender is an unusual child and is treated different by everyone. Ender gets an introduction to his journey by his mentor, he goes through trials, overcomes them, then he has the great ordeal that he has to face. Ender was selected as the hero because of the main reason of being a third. He is meant to be the perfect combination of his brother, Peter, and his sister Valentine. They are bred to become the world's next human fleet commander. Ender is monitored and watched very carefully, the government is inside his head and try to learn his way of thinking. The military hopes that Ender is the one who will save mankind. …show more content…
Besides being in a war with the buggers, Ender is also at war with himself. He is constantly weighing his actions in his mind. After beating Stilson this inner challenge is shown, “take off my monitor, and I am just like Peter” (8), Once Ender is transferred to Salamander army, which is ran by Bonzo Madrid, Bonzo is first bothered by Ender’s placement in his army, so he commands to Ender that Ender will do nothing when they practice and not to draw his weapon. This is a problem for Ender and he is all alone, he wants practice because he feels he should be learning things but Bonzo did not want to accept a launchie in his army. Ender meets a friend in that army, Petra. After befriending each other, and observing each other’s skills, Petra directs Ender, “Petra taught him to hold his arm straight, to aim with the whole arm” (83). Petra then became one of his friends at battle school for a while, which was rare for Ender to have at that …show more content…
He is on the verge of just quitting and leaving the title of future savior of the human race to someone else. Graff reaches out to Valentine after witnessing Ender’s discontentment and hopes she will make Ender realize how important he is to the world and the job he must get done. Graff asks Valentine to write for Ender “You can help me more. Write to him” (149). Ender hits a breaking point and would rather float on a raft in North Carolina instead of simulated battles and constant competition. Graff, again, has Valentine intervene and it’s successful, Ender wakes up and heads back to space with Graff. Eventually, after being sent to command school and Ender meets Mazer Rackham and trains with him, he is given a special weapon. The Dr. Device penetrates through the buggers shields and its beams separate atoms. The M.D Device is entrusted to Ender from Mazer Rackham, his mentor. Ender started playing more simulations by Mazer’s command and Ender was the leader of a fleet. In the simulation, there is Bean, Petra, and Alai. Ender commands them to attack the buggers where they are most concentrated. Ender has the Dr. Device ready and is giving orders to shoot and ready to win, “they obviously don’t know what our weapons can do” (280). Command school goes on and then the day comes where it’s his last examination. Ender took the last game with confidence and he believed that victory was not

Ender was an isolated, third born young man who was raised knowing he had to defeat the buggers. He was forced by his family and the government who told him he was born for one reason and one reason only, to defeat the buggers. At a young age, Ender was recruited into Battle School to learn how to fight the buggers and he did so well that he became the best commander and moved up to Command school to control the simulator. When he was fighting in the “simulated games”, he was actually fighting real buggers and was in real battles, but he didn’t find this out until every bugger was killed. The book was better than the movie because the book had more details and action while the movie left many details…

Ender Wiggin: The Innocent Weapon In Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card, Ender is a very controversial character. Many people believe that he is a killer with a violent spirit, and that he meant to commit genocide, while I disagree. I believe that Ender has an innocent spirit, a friendly conscience, and was repeatedly used as a weapon. He was provoked when fighting Stilson and Bonzo, was constantly controlled by the adults, and did not have the intent of genocide on the buggers.…
