Graff and Anderson are two characters that portray these traits. They decide that Ender is the one they had been looking for, and recruit him to Battle School. An internal conflict in the novel is Ender trying to remain a good person and convince himself he’s not like Peter, but still end up committing violent acts, even though he is forced to defend himself sometimes. Ender is as close as you can get to a good person in Ender’s Game. He doesn’t have ulterior motives like Graff and Anderson, and he cares about people as much as Valentine. Ender struggles with hurting anyone because of his conscience. Ender struggled to not be violent mainly because of the violent environment around him. Because of isolation, Ender didn’t have many friends, and was always being bullied by older students and even his peers until he embarrassed Bernard with the desk messages, and made friends with Alai. Ender tries to be a good person and not be like Peter, and this makes him feel sad and afraid when he does things like kill Stilson and Bonzo, and break Bernard’s arm. This makes him afraid that he is becoming like Peter, and is a cause of his nightmares. Through the book, Ender still manages to retain his humanity, and be a good person. Peter had some moments in the book, where he is showing remorse. In the second chapter, the night after Ender had his monitor removed, while Ender is sleeping, Peter says he loves him because Ender is his brother. This is probably real, because Peter thought Ender was sleeping. Also, at the end of the book, Peter contacts Ender when Ender becomes the Speaker for the Dead, and tells him to tell his story, with his regrets, and the things he’s done in his life. Even though Peter is a mostly evil character, he shows some signs of remorse in the
