Ender Wiggin Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card, is a novel about a six year old boy named Ender who lives in a time after alien “buggers” attacked Earth and were driven back by a great general called Mazer Rackham. Ender is an extremely bright child chosen to go to battle school, a school in space, to fight in the next bugger war. Ender flies through the ranks and becomes the greatest commander in the school. He graduates early and is brought to command school on a dwarf planet in the asteroid belt. He is tricked into destroying the bugger species through “simulations” that turned out to be real. Ender feels bad and finds the last bugger eggs in the universe. A theme to the story is that people are controlling, but an even bigger one is that communication is very important. There are several instances in the story where the outcome would have been more positive if the characters would just communicate. Ender is a smart boy manipulated and …show more content…
He is celebrated as a hero on Earth. He lears he also killed Bonzo in the shower and the first kid he fought as a six year old. He feels guilty. Although he is only eleven, he is a hardened war veteran damaged by his experiences. Orson Scott Card makes Ender as a kid who is too mature for his age. In one instance in the story, Mazer Rackman tells Ender a joke. “‘…It was a joke.’ Ender didn’t see what was funny about it (273).” He moves to an ex-bugger colony with his big sister Valentine because he can’t cope with going back to Earth knowing what he did. He finds a sack of bugger eggs left for him to find them a home. After Ender kills all the buggers and finds the cocoon of eggs, he feels bad and wants to save the species. He tells the queen, “‘I’ll carry you,’ said Ender, ‘I’ll go from world to world until I find a time and place where you can [live] in safety (321).’” He writes papers about how the buggers were sorry.
