Today was a sunny autumn day. The birds were singing, and the wind was blowing through the leaves. Marcus and his parents had just moved into an old farmhouse on several acres of secluded land.
After a couple of months of living there, Marcus had started to notice odd things, like the flickering of the lights, shadows walking out the corner of his eye, and sometimes even objects moving. Marcus tried telling his parents, but they didn’t believe him. There were no electrical issues because they just had electricians check the house for those things, so he ruled that out.
Marcus was a bit of a loner. He didn’t have any friends, and his parents didn’t really talk to him, so when he told his parents, they decided that they would seek help. . . .

Journal Entry 1 – Descriptive Entry (Act II - Proctor) Diary, Although I had promised myself to never open and write in this book again, I can’t help but feel that today’s events should be recorded in here so I can set them away from my mind. If the memories are remembered in here, I wouldn’t to hold remember them in my mind. I had just come back home after a long day of planting and tending the land. I placed my rifle down beside the fireplace as I was welcomed in by the wave of warmth, a distinct contrast from the merciless chill outside.…

Personal response:The book Solitary was a great book. The book had a lot of really descriptive words to described what happened in the story. I liked how the story described how Alex and his two friends, Zee and Simon, kill the Wheezer. It used so many descriptive words in that scene it almost seemed real. I really wondered what was going happen to them next.…

It was hard to believe that our farm was now Mr. Gimbell’s farm. The sun was not up yet, but there was a faint light that came from behind tree line on the hill behind our house. In the early morning light there was a sad, almost eerie light that fell on the house. There were no stars visible and we knew that clouds hung heavy in the sky. We hoped they would clear up, but we had no idea what those clouds held for us.…

The reviews from Michael Wood and Peter Kemp are completely accurate about Craver’s writing techniques in his short stories. In “Stories Full of Edges and Silences” by Michael Wood, what I’ve found relatable in the article was when Wood’s stated “The point is not that words are inadequate, or that actions speck louder. It is that the desire to talk can be perceived a need, and that need has its fluency, makes use of any language that come to hand. This is troublesome fact for writers, but Mr. Carver does not dodge it. (Pg. 2)”…

In mid October early in the morning the day was crisp and chill. The sun was just burning the morning fog off of the lakes cool waters. The dew on the grass and trees was glistening from the sunlight and the bird were singing their songs of jubilee . The entire woods were peaceful and still, and the sunrise was magnificent. During this moment I realized how beautiful nature is when the outside world is a distant memory, and all we need to do is take advantage of the little things life gives us and never stress the big ones too much.…

He explained how Marcus would react to his face expressions as much and he just felt like Marcus had no connection with him. Next, they ended up seeing a neurologist and the neurologist told the parents that Marcus was aloof.
