Homelessness is a huge problem in the United States. Everyday people pass by homeless teenagers in every state that are living on the streets, in abandoned places, or even by a river. Even people see troubled families every day looking for help. Teenagers are homeless for many different reasons. Some of these reasons may vary from lack of parental support and substance abuse. There are too many young adults and troubled families in the United States that are homeless, but there are certain ways that the communities in the United States could help to eradicate the problem.

When there is no support from friends and family it usually leads to substance abuse behavior because to them they think it’s the right thing to do when nothing else is going right. It’s not right to abuse the body when you have in an emotional state. It is believed that about 38% of homeless teenagers abuse alcohol, while 26% regularly use other drugs. ("Homelessness and Substance Abuse."). While the other 40% of young teenagers is homeless because of family reasons. When things go wrong in an un-stable family or friendship things it usually heads south really quick and doesn’t lead to good things. Our Teenage years makes it seem like substance abuse is a thing that it should make them feel better in a way or because it is an easier way to cope with the idea that their family is troubled and not stable. Students have many ways to cope but they love the substance abuse because it puts a chemical into your body and in your brain that makes them feel “out of this world”. Substance abuse is also why students are homeless, because they would rather buy drugs or alcohol than put the money towards something more useful like a house, apartment, or even a condo that’s in a shelter. Less homelessness would be better for everyone! In the paragraph above, they are talking about drug abuse and no parental and friend support. Communities and schools could get together and use this solution. They could provide support groups, give them bonus points if they stay away from drugs, and find help if needed if there is a problem going on at home or even look at things in life from a different point of view. All these ways could be mixed together or even used by themselves. They all lead to positive futures of not end up living on the streets with nowhere to
