Employee Rights: The Equal Pay Act

Decent Essays
Employee rights caught my interest as well because I think the amount of rights employees are entitled to is excellent. For an example, I think worker's compensation is a great program for employees because if an employee is seriously injured on the job I completely agree that it is the company responsibility to ensure the employee is taken care of, and provided for. The Equal Pay Act I believe is a great amendment as well because wages should be disbursed fairly although I do question how powerful this amendment truly is given equal pay is still an unfortunate ongoing issue in current

19th Amendment: What I liked is that on August 18, 1920, women were allowed to vote. I liked that because I think that women not allowed to vote is super stupid. I also liked Harry T. Burn’s decision. I liked his decision because he probably so pressured by both sides. He made the right decision though.…

As Shemy stated, we still have work to do. Since 1972, Title IX has been a driving force for women in sports and will continue to strive to create equality within the field and serve as a role-model for women in other organizations. Wage gap has been a focus for a few who believe that women are able to accomplish tasks just as well as men. On January 29, 2009, President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. The law was initiated after a women had realized she was not being paid as equal to the men of the same job were. Lilly Ledbetter complained on this act of pay discrimination and went to the Supreme Court with the issue. Barack Obama became the first African American to become President of the United States on January 20, 2009. With his presidency, he promised to make changes that would unshackle Americans from crisis and start a new beginning, despite some unsuccessful policies along the way. Taking a look into how he rose to be successful, the triumphs he has provided, and some of his unfortunate improprieties, helps to paint a better picture of the man we call our President. Obama prepared himself as a child to beat the odds, and one day become president. He was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii to Ann Dunham and Barack Obama, Sr…

I chose the 15th amendment, section 1, because I feel it was such a heartfelt issue for African Americans because of their skin color and acknowledgement to being subjected a slave. I wanted to know more about how did my race come about reaching their goal of being able to finally vote. It’s also important to know about history in general, like how things happened, came about, for us to be living the way we do now and how things have changed over time. If it wasn’t for this specific amendment being passed, African Americans could still have problems today trying to cast their vote. So my interest is on being appreciative of what our race went through for a long time to appreciate how good we have it now.…

The 19th Amendment The 19th constitutional amendment is the most important to me because it gives women the right to vote. Woman have been fighting for their right to vote since the late 1800’s. Lucy Burns was one of the most influential woman to take a stand about women's rights. Lucy was imprisoned in 1917 when her and others were arrested picketing the white house.…

I honestly think that this is the most important amendment of the three amendments that I picked. the 10th amendment states that “ The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” This amendment says that states have the power in their states to decide what they want and only what they want. This is very good because every state in the country is different, and every single one of them is always changing, meaning that it can be very hard to keep up with. But with the constitution it doesn't have to be.…

The amendments of the Constitution affects my life in so many ways. One reason would be the first amendment. This amendment says that we have the freedom of speech, religion and the press. This applies to me because it allows me to say and do whatever I want to, whenever I want to. In addition, another amendment that applies to me is the fourth amendment, this says that a soldier can't barge into my house and take food supplies from me.…

This past September, a shocking story made rise in the media when an African American Toronto lawyer was denied access into the Law Society of Upper Canada Headquarters. This story made such uproar because the lawyer did have the identification card that is required to enter the Canada headquarters. The lawyer Selwyn Pieters in July was taking his students on a field trip to the Canada Headquarters but when they arrived they were denied access to enter without any explanation after the lawyer showed his identification card, “While a white person was buzzed in before and after the incident without any scrutiny.” After the lawyer was denied access into the building along with his students he replied to the incident by saying “What the guard…

Future Applications of the Equal Protection Clause The Equal Protection clause in the United States of America’s Constitution has long been a harbinger for controversy, in which events for the lesser of the two opponents always deteriorates before it remotely improves. With this in mind, flashback to the days of the writing and ratifying of the 14th amendment. The Caucasian people of that past world, would not and could not refer to themselves as anything other than superior to their African-American counterparts. When the oppressed and elite came to terms as equal, the elite could not stand it.…

The 1970 Act only dealt with equal pay for the same work but in 1975 the EU directive on Equal Pay was passed based on article 119. In 1978, despite the passage of legislation to promote equal pay, women’s position in the UK was still worse than in Italy, France, Germany, or the Benelux countries in 1972. However, The Act has now been mostly superseded by Part 5, chapter 3, of the Equality Act 2010. The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society. The act has made it against the law to discriminate against anyone because of age, being or becoming a transsexual person, being married or in a civil partnership, being pregnant or having a child, disability, race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, belief or lack of religion/belief, sex or sexual…

In society there are many stereotypical roles that have developed in our culture. The key entity to remember about stereotypes is that they do not apply to all, but are just a way for people to come to judgements faster (Brewer). Unfortunately, these stereotypes, particularly those describing women have hindered their ability to be treated equally to men. Many of these stereotypes have to do with the work place and home life.…
