Importance of Employee Engagement in the Healthcare Industry

Reforms in the healthcare industry through the Affordable Care Act has made health systems to struggle with the challenges of reimbursement, readmission as well as the shift toward value based purchasing.
The critical challenge for any hospital is patient safety. Because of this, it is requirement that professional knowledge workers are highly skilled and dedicated and should be made aware of the protocols and strategies in place within the organization to reduce any preventable medical errors, avert nosocomial infections, or any fatal adverse effects that may cause legal repercussions which usually ends up a major expense to the hospital. To help battle costly malpractice lawsuits, through safety measures and the continuous dissemination of the culture of safety within the hospital setting validates the safety of every patient being treated in the hospital. Therefore, a highly engaged employee provides a high quality of care to their patients. Moreover, employee engagement can be reflected through the patient through their satisfaction and their likeliness to recommend.
