As an Operations Manager, there are several essential tasks and functions that make up the job. An Operations Manager must have exceptional leadership skills and abilities that will help motivate employees to achieve the set forth goals and objectives. One must establish and implement company/departmental goals and objectives and follow up with other members of the organization to ensure those objectives are being met on schedule. Managers must be able to effectively and clearly communicate expectations and results to employees and executives/board member’s. With employees having clear expectations, they will be able to achieve set forth objectives in a more direct and productive fashion. Employee development is a key function of …show more content…
However, a leader that is predominately transformational would have the greatest impact. Having a transformational leader that is managing an Operations Manager would inspire them to abandon their personal agenda and “buy-in” to the organization’s goals and would create better team cohesiveness. By leading multiple Operations Managers throughout the company, a transformational leader would increase self-efficacy and would give their team a can do spirit. A transformational leader would also challenge their team to be creative and would create a sense of affective commitment which would allow their team to believe the goals they are pursuing are personally important. However, there are instances when a transformational leader would not be as influential. Most Operations Managers tend to be more individualistic, and at times can be reluctant to cede decision making power. Another example of a transformational leader not being as influential would be if an organizations structure is more bureaucratic and complex. For example, if a Supervisor reports directly to the Operations Manager of Marketing and with a dotted line reports to the Operations Manager of Finance, role conflict may arise. If both Managers assign the Supervisor competing goals of increasing marketing advertisement and lower budget spending, then the Supervisor is conflicted. The Supervisor cannot accomplish one goal without rejecting the other. In this case, strong communication and cooperative goal setting on the side of both Mangers would alleviate this
